It's the time of year when calla lilies are blooming at South Coast Botanic Garden, and I capture far more images than I can possibly post simply because these flowers are so incredibly photogenic. ;) Just one from a recent visit, and I chose the title because the flower reminded me of one of my favorite songs by Massive Attack. (Zuiko 50mm macro, f/6.3, 1/160 sec., ISO 400, open shade, handheld)
Protection -- Massive Attack (live)

Among normal Hortências I found this one, quit different! -- Entre a shortências normais encontrei esta, completamente diferente!
The Pigeon Point Lighthouse has stood proud and (115 feet) tall since 1872, the year it began to guide mariners from its perch on a 35-foot cliff in Pescadero.
Each lighthouse has its own distinctive light pattern which makes it identifiable to passing ships. Ship captains carry a "light list" of the various patterns, and thus can use the signal to help determine their location. As the Pigeon Point lighthouse's Fresnel lens rotated around the light source, it produced a flash pattern of light every 10 seconds. An automated Aero beacon was installed in 1972, but the 10-second light pattern is still maintained today.
Each November the original Fresnel lens is lit on the anniversary of it's first lighting.

Happy Friday everyone. In the spirit of the ending the work week I'll finish up the Protection series. The final installment is after the sun has set and the colors totally shifted to these wonderful purply blues and oranges. I hope you've liked the series =)

I really enjoyed putting this one together and disappearing into another world while working on it. I needed the escape <3
Another shot from the Thames Barrier in Greenwich, with sunset rapidly approaching there was a good amount of golden soft light to play with, the lower light allowing a decent long exposure time, just showing of a lone section of the river defence, these to me are a very interesting and unusual architectural design, almost space age, and set against some recognisable shapes in the City make for some unusual images when coupled with a long exposure.
