A fortunate view of the mighty Volcán Santa Maria (3772m), which is located on the outskirts of Xela (Quetzaltenango).
Taken on 2016-12-24 on a PLQ school trip to Volcán Chicabal in Guatemala. This volcano is an important site for Mam Maya religious ceremonies, and plays a large role in the Mayan cosmovision.

Looking out over the town of San Martín (Sacatepéquez), near Volcán Chicabal. The house in the foreground is usually a result of someone sending or bringing back money from working abroad.
Taken on 2016-12-24 on a PLQ school trip to Volcán Chicabal in Guatemala. This volcano is an important site for Mam Maya religious ceremonies, and plays a large role in the Mayan cosmovision.
This was on a trip with my PLQ spanish school to see the farming community of Almolonga, a little bit southeast of Xela. After a walk through the fields we went to the volcanic medicinal hot spring baths that the town is also known for.
Taken while in Quetzaltenango (aka Xela), Guatemala in November/December 2016.

The Public Hall
Designed by Thomas Fulcher in 1785
as an assembly room and used
for Balls, Corporation Feasts
and as a Theatre.
Restored in 1903, it is now
the Town's Public Hall

From the Beccles Conservation Area character appraisal:
At the turn of the 18th century, following much local debate, a Public Hall and Assembly Rooms was built on the corner of Market Street and Smallgate. The building has been altered since, despite being originally built ‘... to answer the purposes of an Assembly Room and a Playhouse’. According to records of the period it appears it was not large enough but, more significantly perhaps, because of unrest from unemployed rural workers, public meetings were banned in 1801, and hence the building of the Fisher Theatre not long afterwards. It therefore met its first refurbishment transferring its function more similar to a modern conference facility. A number of architects are associated with the building but it is generally credited to Thomas Fulcher, with later alterations by the local architect, A Pells.

Hipped black pantiled roof. 4 windows, to ground floor central doors with window either side. Two blind windows and four others to side elevation.
