This beautiful 200+ year old church, Basílica de la Merced, is located in downtown Santiago, Chile. It is tightly squeezed in between more modern buildings, and a huge palm tree that sit square in front of it, making it all but impossible to get a good symmetrical photo of it... but I was fortunate today in the the sun god lovingly placed itself right where I needed it to be, more or less... :-)

Die Harzer Schmalspurbahnen GmbH (HSB) mit Sitz in Wernigerode ist eine Eisenbahngesellschaft, die ein zirka 140 km langes Netz von zumeist dampfbetriebenen Schmalspurstrecken im Harz betreibt. Es handelt sich heute um das längste zusammenhängende dampfbetriebene Streckennetz in Europa. Dieses Netz mit der Spurweite von 1000 mm (Meterspur) besteht aus den Strecken Harzquerbahn, Selketalbahn und Brockenbahn. Auch die Anfangsbuchstaben der Strecken ergeben das Kürzel der Bahngesellschaft. Die Strecken sind ganzjährig in Betrieb.

Drei der sechs Endbahnhöfe (Nordhausen Nord, Quedlinburg und Wernigerode) verfügen über einen Anschluss an das normalspurige Netz der Deutschen Bahn AG. Neben der Brohltalbahn und der Wangerooger Inselbahn sind die Harzer Schmalspurbahnen heute eine der drei letzten Schmalspurbahnen mit Güterverkehr in Deutschland.

Im Personenverkehr wird die HSB heute überwiegend von Touristen und Ausflüglern (z. B. Wanderern) genutzt, der eigentliche Regionalverkehr im Sinne von Berufs- und Schülerverkehr spielt nur noch im Raum Nordhausen/Ilfeld und auf dem Streckenabschnitt Quedlinburg–Gernrode (Harz) eine bedeutendere Rolle.

It looks as though he has lost an antennae but I reviewed another photo of him (see www.flickr.com/gp/jax_chile/M171jK) that I took later and you can see that he still had two antennae. I assume it was pointing into the abyss below him when I shot the photo.
