I did indeed arrange these two leaves for the photo shot; backlit and reflector used; raw conversion in macOS High Sierra photo editor and processed in Luminar. When it comes to producing punchy monochrome images I feel the 16MB X-Pro1 is still able to hold its own.

About

My last photo before I got hit by a train, seriously I've been taking too much risks taking shots near and even on the tracks, it's dangerous and you should not do that !

That been said, if you attempt any like this, use your brain and don't listen to your ipod while doing so, look around you every few seconds, etc. Here I have a railway crossing close by that makes a hell of lot of noise when closing for the next train to arrive, very

convenient.

Of course I didn't jump at the last moment, only a fool would do that, some people suggested that I was brave or had guts, I would say you're a f* lunatic if you would try to attempt any of this for real. So the light trails were added in the safety of my chair with photoshop and a Wacom tablet, it's fairly easy and explained down below.

The shot

2 x Standard 3 exposures HDR [-2,0,+2EV] in RAW/ISO100 at f/11 using the Sigma 10-20mm lens, on a tripod.

Photomatix

Tonemapped using the detail enhancer.

Photoshop

° Vertorama stitching with my predefined action ( See here for description )

° Shadows and highlights.

° Deepening the blues in the sky.

° Color balance.

° A slightly altered version of the high pass sharpening :

- Make a duplicate of the layer.

- Desaturate the layer.

- Select Filter>Other>High pass (Select 10 pixels)

- Change the blending mode of this layer to 'Hard light'

- Change the opacity of this layer to around 30 to 60%.

The light trails :

° Create a new layer and draw the lines in with a brush.

° Use radial blur and gaussian blur to get it glowing.

° Create a few duplicate layers and draw some different colours in.

° Some more blurring.

To get the light of the trails also highlight the tracks ( this makes a significant difference to make this all more believable ) :

° Merge the layers created above and duplicate the resulting layer.

° Free transform it ( ctrl-T ) and squeeze it more flat and a bit wider to cover

the ground area.

° Play around with the blending mode and opacity to get the result you're looking for,

I used 2 layers in the end, one with Vivid light and one with Lighten, both set to different opacities, I can't recall the numbers.
