Milkyway and Perseids in Rheinland-Palatinate, Germany. First try with stars.

Milchstraße und die Perseiden, fotografiert auf der kleinen Kalmit in Rheinland-Pfalz. Mein erster Versuch Sterne zu fotografieren.

Our home galaxy. On such nights, I could just sit and stare at the sky for countless hours.

Photographed at VƤhƤ-KausjƤrvi, LempƤƤlƤ, Finland. I went there to photograph the Perseids meteor shower. The Milky Way was a quite welcome addition to these photos.

A stack of 14, 20 second, f2.8, ISO 3200 images taken to try to capture a meteor from the morning of August 13. There is one meteor in the mix but the three main streaks are jets. The shots were taken looking north toward the Glass Mountains (lower left).

Star Trails, Perseid Meteor Shower 2013

Lost some sleep getting this shot. The Perseids meteor shower this year was one to remember. Of course the best ones were slightly out of frame or between exposures. Still I have never seen it like this. Must of been 200-300 per hour. I shot this in the Kern River Canyon from 1:30am until 4:00am. 275 30sec exposures. I took the best 15 or so and lined them up.

Out last night for a few hours trying to catch some Perseid meteors.Put this together form 90 frames, 30 sec exposures.

The past couple nights I have left the camera out set to interval shooting. I've been trying to capture some meteors from the annual Perseid shower. The camera took hundreds of photos and perhaps 20 of the frames actually had meteors in them. This one isn't the brightest I captured, but it's one of my favorite shots anyway. It was captured just before dawn this morning and you can see the Pleiades star cluster in the frame as well.

By the way, I recently got a new camera!! A Pentax K-3. I'm really enjoying learning this new tool. The lens used was the Rokinon 14mm.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Here's my second attempt at capturing the meteor shower, this was Sunday night at Crater Lake. I decided to point away from Perseus this time and try to capture the meteors falling in the opposite direction. This is a composite, obviously, and I included a few of the flares from car headlights around the rim. There were tons of people up there, but most of them were on the other side of the lake.

Hard to catch any Perseids this year. I had light pollution to the NW and the bright Moon to the East. Only managed to see 5 meteors, including this one :)

This is the second meteor in the soon-to-be-posted video. This image is straight out of the camera. It left an interesting after effect, posted in the following comment.

The other, more dramatic, meteor image was posted yesterday.

Last few days before we have the grandkids! I stayed up to watch the perseid meteor shower last night but didn't get any useable images. My best is still this one from my back garden three years ago. Fingers crossed I will try again tonight...

After many tries for several nights and despite full moon shining brightly at last one Perseid fireball apeared!

Location is Kaludjerske Bare on Tara mountain in Western Serbia, South Europe

It looks a bit like an Iridium flare because you can see both ends of the trail past the bright part, but it's not: I checked and there were no Iridium flares at this coordinates between 22PM and 4 AM and the trail matches the radiant point exactly which you can see for yourself by watching its orientation to Cassiopeia constellation in the picture

30 second exposure. Lit with my iphone.

Out watching the Perseids with my two youngest and trying to capture stars for the first time with my camera. Fun night.

The clouds gave way for about an hour at 2am this morning here in Essex, UK and although we had a 3/4 full waning gibbous moon we were still treated to a spectacular display...

The Shot

Another great night at Picture Lake in the North Cascades. This place is always pitch black & the Milky Way is hangin' right over your head. Anyone else know great places to shoot the night sky out here? I shoot at Ruby Beach last night. By far my fav place to shoot starts so far..

Not the best grab, but the only decent one where I managed to get a meteor in frame.

Another shot from the Perseid Meteor shower on Saturday night. Here we see two Perseids and the Milky Way over the TAS observing field (and some wonderful light pollution from Durant).

Two Meteors and one Air Plane

From Wicklow Harbour, Ireland

My monitors are calibrated differently, so here's an alternate version (each looks ok on one of my monitors but not the other....)

Fought many a mosquito to get this one. I'm very new to this kind of photography...I guess lightening with no trigger is as close as I've come, but I really enjoyed it. There were lots of meteors, a sounder of wild hogs and an armadillo that blindly threatened to knock over my tripod. It was a good morning!

My first attempt at astrophotography at Devil's Punchbowl Park during the Perseid Meteor Shower

A perseid I was able to shoot last night in the Southern Kettle Moraine state forest in wisconsin. Its not everyone who gets a meteor shower on their birthday every year :D

Happy bday to me :P
