On this leg of my Pan American-Trek using Google Street View we travel south on US 83 through west central Texas, through Winters, Ballinger, Paint Rock, Menard, Junction, Leakey, and Uvalde. Trees continue to be very important to framing houses, and there are still lots of ghosts in the towns, but there are a few noticeable changes. First, the towns now have begun to have some richer neighborhoods. Second, the Mexican-American presence is beginning to be more explicitly apparent.

I have gathered pecans from beneath this venerable pecan tree since childhood. It was massive then. More so today.
The Pecans be growing here in the El Paso area.

They tore down a building leaving a vacant lot. I could clearly see the pecan tree for the first time. Just beautiful.
I didn't make this but I ate it. This is the only photo of Thanksgiving dinner.
