Think now I should have got down lower to obliterate that large gap in the middle - oh well.

Taken on Sunday evening 16/10/2011 at Heybrook Bay. Hope you like it and thanks for looking.

Pebbles at Lake Pier, Poole. The sun took the chill off for a couple of hours but once she had gone I was thankful for the many layers of clothing, scarf and woolly hat.

One of my first cat shots on my new Canon 40D. So pleased with the image quality of this camera. Pebbles is a very nervous cat and was lucky to get such a great portrait of her. Lit only by the nearby window she was sitting next to....

My Beautiful Pebbles, this is the last photo from her.️

The currents are strong and the tidal range high in this bay where the foreshore is full of pebbles. The small groynes help to keep the pebbles in place these groynes have nearly disappeared. It was raining so pebbles good and wet but slippery take care.

This is on the route when taking our daughter's dog for a walk and the temperature has been in the 90's for a few days.

There are a couple of benches up there and this location is one of the highest parts of Okotoks, Calgary. The view is sectacular and the walkways through the estate are well maintained and littered with trees. In places rocks and pebbles adorn the sidewalks. Dog waste bins and free bags are located at regular intervals.

Below this is a childrens' play area. I took a shot lower down looking up and this is can be seen below.

Pebble found in my garden.

See first comment for the other side of the pebble.

- Pebbles come in various colors and textures and can have streaks, known as veins, of quartz or other minerals. Pebbles are mostly smooth but, dependent on how frequently they come in contact with the sea, they can have marks of contact with other rocks or other pebbles.

Pebbles are found in two locations – on the beaches of various oceans and seas, and inland where ancient seas used to cover the land. When then the seas retreated, the rocks became landlocked. They can also be found in lakes and ponds. Pebbles can also form in rivers, and travel into estuaries where the smoothing continues in the sea.

- Earth's many rocks can take on a seemingly-endless array of colors. From bright reds and oranges to dull browns and grays.

All those colors are the result of the minerals that make up the rocks. Minerals are the building blocks of rock. Some rocks consist of just one type of mineral, but most rocks contain a few different types of minerals joined together.

Scientists estimate there are as many as 4,000 different types of minerals. Each mineral has its own unique chemical composition, which helps to determine what color it will be. A mineral's color can also be affected by chemical impurities, interaction with other minerals, and environmental factors.

For example, quartz, which is normally colourless can be violet (amethyst), pink (rose quartz), yellow (false topaz), smoky brown-black (cairngorm), etc.
