Paynes Prairie is unique in many ways. Nowhere else in Florida can visitors experience wild-roaming bison and horses. Nearly 300 species of birds also frequent the park along with alligators, deer and many other animals.
Smack dab in the middle of Florida is 20,000 acres of a wildlife preserve like no other. This slice of life is home to everything from alligators, wild horses, and wild boar. There is also about 300 different species of birds. It became Florida's first state preserve in 1971. I took a few drone shots along SR 441 at Sunset, even ran into a few locals that made the trip a blast.

It wasn't the sunset that caught my eye, but the beautiful moonrise behind me. I have a few more photos to post. Be back soon.......✌😎

Been on the road in Florida for 2 days and I have driven from Gainesville to Parkland and now down to Key Largo. Many stops and interesting things along the way. Be back soon ✌😎
On the flooded prairie basin there is not much available grazing area, so the horses and bison munch and mingle. The horses quietly approached behind me and stood politely until I noticed them and stepped aside to let them pass. The eerie scream of a limpkin spooked them into a gallop and sped up the process of mingling with the bison.
I enjoyed the Iron Range so much when I was here a month ago, I decided to come back. My friend Gordy and I arrived in the community of Payne, MN where we intercepted our first catch of the day, a southbound CN mixed freight on the Missabe Sub with three EMD's. The fog was too dense to get any sun south of here and we unfortunately didn't get any until late afternoon.
CN U716 crosses Highway 133 near the communuty of Payne, Minnesota anticipating a meet with an empty limestone train out of Fairlane just up the road at Kelsey.
Kale's newest miracle (which is cool but not nearly as cool as the other ones he's done) works south with steaming pellets from United Taconite's plant at Fairlane.
I climbed the tower in order to survey Paynes Prairie, in hopes of spotting the wild bison or the wild horses. It was so hot that the only thing stirring were the bugs. I hope to return here in the cooler season when the wildlife is more active.
Beautiful colours of Paynes Prairie
Paynes Prairie is a unique park which became Florida´s first state preserve in 1971. William Bartram called it the great Alachua Savannah. Approximately 20 distinct biological communities provide a rich array of habitats for wildlife and livestock, including alligators, bison, horses and more than 270 species of birds.
The La Chua Trail is one of the many trails in Paynes Prairie and our (my son and I) favourite. On any given day you can see alligators, Spanish cracker horses, bisons, great blue herons and a number of other birds. It is a beautiful 3-mile hike which includes a boardwalk across the Alachua Sink.
This photograph was taken from the top of the observation tower on the Wacahoota Trail during the spring time.
Well, i haven't seen anybody on Flickr make one, so I decided that i should go ahead and give it a shot.
I made him with his signature tropical shirt. Comment what you think and add it to your favorites. (:
this seems to be the crowd pleaser from my post today on Every Second Sunday.
I just put up more of the story on my blog.

Snuck up on the Paynes Prairie wild horse herd. A beautiful Mare with the rest of the herd off in the distance. Walking out from the hot humid forest, into the open prairie and getting so close to the herd was wonderful.
Like wine, gets better with time ;D
