Looking over the overflow outlet as the setting sun shines on a few of the Ten Peaks that surround Moraine Lake. The lake overflows like this in the spring/early summer, but then dries up till the next year. Does create a large logjam that add's to the lake's charm.

Thanks for your visit! Always appreciated.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Looking west across Lake Ruataniwha, from the damwall outlet toward the Southern Alps. As you can see, another perfect sub-zero NZ morning :-)

While I didn't make the Greenville shot due to the walk out of Onawa, I raced up to Moosehead to shoot the train crossing over the East Outlet as it worked it's way north. I had a decent amount of time to kill when I got there and I rather enjoyed watching the group of fishermen in the boat and the guys spread out in the river all trying to land a Big catch, I never did see any of them catch anything. After a bit the nice Canadian tuned horn on the 9017 could be heard echoing through the woods. Shortly the train rolled out onto the bridge grabbing the last light at this spot as train 1 works north to Jackman. Ideally we would have kept chasing but with a three hour drive back to the cabin we rented I figured we did good enough and could walk away successfully with only two shots of the train.

The Bangor and Aroostook heritage unit was our leader today going east on Job 2. We were spoiled with perfect weather all day, and good company. The train is seen crossing over the east outlet, where the Kennebec River flows from Moosehead lake.

A peaceful morning at the continuation of the Yellowstone River on it's way to it's two majestic falls and the far away Missouri River.

With a surface area of 132 square miles, Yellowstone Lake is the largest lake at high elevation in North America. It is a natural lake, situated at 7,733 ft. above sea level.

Thanks for taking a look!

I headed to Birdlings flat this morning to hopefully grab a few photo’s, but in reality it was to escape life if I’m being true to myself.

When busy life and work pressures mount I find that getting away from people in general, and certainly the city is a good way to help clear my mind. The sea south of Banks Peninsular is a very wild place as far as Canterbury goes, steep beach’s, strong currents, wind and stirred up seas. It can be a great place for dramatic photos but more often its harsh environment isn’t conducive for photography. So after the 35 minute drive there and 20 minute hike along the beach to its North end with my gear and after a couple of photo’s I found myself just watching sea birds and the waves on the rocks. I packed up and headed over to the nearby calm but blocked off outlet of Lake Forsyth, such a contrast maybe only 25-30 meters away from the sea. Clam and a lot clearer air without the ever present sea spray, I sat there and just watched a few sea birds before taking any photos, no one for miles and with the sound of the sea as background it was just what I needed.

Not been out this week, so here is one from my last visit to the coast.

A new series where I intend to experiment with shapes, light and time to transform the view into more of an abstraction of shapes and tones. Shot at sunrise with lingering mist over the sea.

The outlet stream from a hot spring in the Snake River basin. Park regulations prohibit bathing in any waters like this, which are purely of thermal origin. People die in these, as did a man in the summer of 2016. Your body oils also damage the thermophilic bacteria, viruses, and plants in the stream.

You can bathe where hot water mixes with the Snake River, though the deadly parasite Naegleri fowleri has been found throughout the park in such waters.

An outlet stream pours from Lower Ice Lake, beginning its 1500-ft cascade into a valley far below.
