Up close and personal. During our visit to Elk Grove Regional Park we saw several beautifully colored Wood ducks. We hid behind a tree, so as not to startle this handsome fella. It was such a pleasure to be in the company of this colorful drake as we laid on the ground snapping away.

Philadelphia Flaebane Single Bloom is a beautiful softly light, soft focus nature photograph of a single Philadelphia Flaebane flower in full bloom one early spring evening. Rookery at Ocean City - Yellow-crowned Night Heron
Yellow-crowned Night Heron
The Yellow-crowned Night Heron (Nyctanassa violacea, formerly placed in the genus Nycticorax), also called the American night heron or squawk, is a fairly small heron. It is found throughout a large part of the Americas, especially (but not exclusively) in warmer coastal regions; an example occurrence is the Petenes mangroves of the Yucatan.
A related heron, the Bermuda night heron, was endemic to Bermuda, but became extinct following human colonization.

I shot this photograph one fall day after a long shoot at Battery Park in New Castle Delaware. As I rested under the maple tree I noticed how the sun light reflected off of the orange leaves and the branches allowed small specks of blue to gleam through. I found the color combination very pleasant and relaxing. Photograph created by Melissa Fague.

Did you think the same as me?
that day artfully repossessing today
fitfully, encapsulating a feeling
as the cumulus pass passacaglia-style
ever-changing surrounds
partisans of four seasons
the art of the play of light
in the shape of illuminated night
hearken to the breeze in flight
circumjacent attends a vocal sight
it's a magnate of nature's making
summer refinery and autumnal panoply
weave in and out of your mind
embracing a magnificent triune;
ourselves, nature, and a time to attune.

Coming as it does, straight from the heart
of a wholly natural thing within our nature
in truth, nothing can ever set this apart
this oneness of the earth we must never denature
it's ours to keep like a love winding downstream
we've only ourselves to blame if all is lost
and nothing to gain if we long for the upstream
of our lives, in sentiments unabridged yet crossed
we know the truth if only we were free enough to admit
an expedition of common sense into our world
speak the truth of our value upon a precious world we commit
to more than it's fair share of human trash thence hurled
guardians are we, with the depth of irresponsibility to match-
the harm we inflict from our every social and political trap
there is nothing clever about bleeding the heart out of all we attach
with the label of 'need' upon our globalising and unforgiving map
compassion-spathic, are we? it certainly looks good on paper
etched from the agonied boughs of hope against surrender
rust to dust and ashes to crashes of all-consuming human caper
a serenade for the kind who inhabit the earth as one great pretender
we can be free, yes we can, by allowing time to flow a natural truth
answers don't come instantaneously from your favourite typeface
nor from the hysteria of the science of succumbing freedoms' youth
we're not made to become governmental speciations of one knowledge base
no, we are what we are, living, breathing, individuals of heartfelt 'need'
each and all, born with the entitlement to be truly human, no more no less
let nothing stand in the way! for our 'powers are merely our servants, take heed
corporations and political condemnations strike their own fate of over-excess
they shall pay mightier prices than you or I, our souls clean by the riverside
detactched are they who thought themselves above our 'pathetic world'
progress and achievement sealed with a gilt-edged deal set to collide
with the error of their ways, we now savour the pure Earth, before us unfurled.

Imagine going to a place where baiters are not permitted! A
fellow patrolling this location, protecting the nature as things they
should be. A place where it is unacceptable to walk off the trails.
A place that people can visit with respect toward wildlife
and birds, and not need tobe so concerned with confrontations
involving those who selfishly and ignorantly disrespect.
What a superb experience. We had 2 Great grey owls
yesterday afternoon, up near Montreal. 3 hours of enjoyment with
my friend of many emailing years (10) Chuck Kling, a fellow
who has kept me informed regarding all the conservation issues
in his area of Quebec.
Brilliant !! Watching this bird hunt from perch to perch,
carefully examining the area for any sign of
a possible meal. Using it's facial disks to listen for any
sort of rodent squeak! I have never in
my life seen a bird hunt so aggressively... real nature
is spectacular to witness.
Personally, photography of nature is not about getting
the most likes, the most followers, the most "great shot!"
comments, biggest chest, adulation, etc. Enjoying
the beauty of nature, then sharing the images with folks
around the world to help gain a greater appreciation
of our nature world.
So we can all strive toward conservation and appreciation
of all birds, animals, and fauna.
This is absolutely not about me. or my picture, or my ego,
or a contest - biggest chest?? Never.
Having fun with my friends and workshop guests, teaching
techniques, settings, approach and respect, and the most
fun, helping people understand the natural way of things.
Understanding your subject, and showing respect will always
be the best advantage in the real world of nature photography.
Taking advantage, and virtual abuse is done selfishly
with poor judgement (unreal lazy). If you really want
to be a hero, go play golf, go racing, play baseball, compete
in a sport. Tossing bait to a helpless animal doesn't make
you special, it doesn't gain you respect, and does not make you special.
Only my opinions, hoping a few beginners understand some values, and etiquette.
Best regards, raymond.
