WE TEDDY BEARS LOVE OUR NAPS----WE CALL THEM---- HAPPY HOUR

Royal Albert Hall

Setting up for the next show.

First stop on Saturday. Other folk had gorillapods, one even had a tripod, but I made do with resting the camera on the balcony. Next year might be different.

St. Stephen's Hall, Westminster

Leading to the Lobby of the Houses of Parliament, this is St. Stephen's Hall in the Palace of Westminster.

Banqueting House, Whitehall

The Banqueting House, Whitehall, is the grandest and best known survivor of the architectural genre of banqueting house and the only remaining component of the Palace of Whitehall. The building is important in the history of English architecture as the first structure to be completed in the neo-classical style, which was to transform English architecture.

Below the Banqueting Hall is an area known as the Undercroft, shown here.

Bit of a let down this one - the most interesting part was the circular courtyard.

We got in with 10 seconds to spare, so very little time to explore and take photos.

Portcullis House

Portcullis House was officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen in February 2001 providing offices for Members of Parliament and their staff, supplementing the limited space in the Palace of Westminster and surrounding buildings.

TEDDY BEARS LOVE TO VISIT---HTBT

Guildhall Crypt

Guildhall is a Grade I-listed building in the City of London and has been used as a town hall for several hundred years and the ceremonial and administrative centre of the City of London and its Corporation.

There are two crypts beneath the Great Hall. This is the western crypt.

Not normally open to the general public, it was our first location of the day, and luckily not many people about.

One Bishops Square

This is 'Pixel Cloud', an art installation in the atrium of law firm Allen & Overy’s office building in Bishops Square. A 3d matrix of 624 polycarbonate globes which span eight storeys. Each 120mm globe is fitted with 24 LEDs and can be controlled independently allowing for light and colour changes.

Most impressive.

Rear staircase.

I loved living in Colorado, lots of variety and a well knit group of Railfans. We shared with monthly slide shows and while there were plenty of non-railroaders we had just as many who worked for the railroad. One group that attended the monthly show was a group that worked for the Transportation Technology Center. Occasionally they would have an open house and those of us in the group would be invited to take a look around at the test center. It was super cool place to visit and learn about railroading. This was the power for our train that ran around one of the test loops during the open house. Good times, with many thanks to the individuals who made these events possible.

This is the only photo I took as unfortunately photography is not allowed inside - a shame as it is a fascinating museum.

Apothecaries' Hall

A courtyard building with some of the best-preserved 17C livery hall interiors. Built on the site of the Blackfriars Priory and replacing the original hall burned down in 1666. Courtyard refurbished in 2017.

A shot from this years London Open House taken last Sunday. I led a group from our Local Camera Club to 5 Buildings in all. One Bishops Square our first visit was definitely the highlight. I first visited this building last year. This view is from the Basement level looking up at a catwalk where people can view the Pixel Cloud. This is a light sculpture by Greyworld, a group of London based artists, displayed in the north atrium of this building. The Architects of the building were Foster and Partners' and it is home to the law firm Allen & Overy. I have to admit to one cheat here in that there were originally 2 pairs of feet above and I added the photographically important 3rd pair by copying the upper ones in from another image.

This was an example of a building doing Open House really well though it does have the benefit of plenty of space. The tour was self guided with arrows pointing the way and staff placed at strategic points. The result was no queue. There were several large Atriums and a roof terrace and cafe with views over the City. We spent an hour and 50 minutes in the building so a lot more to come. The building deserves to be better known but the lack of crowds was welcome.

The picture was taken handheld with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 mm lens at 10mm. 3 raw images 2EV spacing for HDR. Outputted in Photomatix using Fusion Real Estate preset for a natural look.

With buildings like this with so many lines there is considerable difficulty in getting everything lined up straight and symmetrical especially handheld. I made corrections using Photoshop Transform Distort and skew plus a crop. More detail was brought in using Topaz Clarity and noise reduced using Nik Define.
