Another one from Elgol "beach" on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Unfortunaly the weather didn't offer me the real great stuff, but this location definitely is wonderful for landscape photography and under any circumstances...!
This was shot on our Iceland Winter Wilderness photo workshop.
There had been a storm the day before, so the ocean was very rough with huge waves crashing onto the shore. I wanted to get close to this large chunk of ice (about knee high) that was basically too big to be pushed further ashore.
In order to get the waves in the background at a decent size, I needed to move as close as possible to the ice, risking to get a serious soaking. Many people underestimate the power of the ocean here, and on this year's trip two people lost their equipment to the waves. The moment you move close to or even into the ocean, it can become very dangerous indeed.
Timing was crucial - I needed to be ready to run like hell. On this year's trip I ripped a muscle in one of my calfs doing that; my backpack was too heavy and the sand too soft - a lesson learned. The first few days of our trip I had to walk with crutches.
For this shot used a 6 stop ND filter and the cleverly designed LucrOit filter holder. Without it, I wouldn't be able to use any filters on my 14-24 lens.

Another older shot from Coral Cove Park reprocessed to mono. I'm having lots of fun with conversions and enjoy seeing how it changes the mood of the entire picture. I was able to go out shooting this weekend and will be posting some new shots soon:)
Late day lighting bathes these rocks as the salty ocean (misty with the long exposure) flows between them.

As the storm headed out to sea, I headed for the beach. As the clouds parted behind some magic light did the trick.

Driving home down the coast earlier this afternoon, after a beautiful sunny day,a storm appeared on the horizon.Just had enough time to slip home, pick up the camera and make it to the beach before all hell broke loose for an hour or so.Lots of thunder and lightning but not a lot of rain, but a great dramatic sky.
PLEASE VIEW ON BLACK....
Pacific means peaceful in Latin. The Pacific Ocean covers 30% of the Earth's surface and so is the biggest Ocean in the world

This is a Blend +2,0,-2. With a hint of magenta (masked to the sky only) to put a bit of life into the upper sky.
I got the sunshine blues my fine flickr friends - my Irish blood is firing up and I want a rainy windy Sunday. I have listed my Baby Mac 21 on gumtree and am a feeling a little blue and a little sad to say goodbye to her - she has been marvellous and really she was the one responsible for kicking me off in photography. Mama Retina led me by the hand gently in to the colour nik software thingey today to try and make up for Baby Mac's departure and the fine summers day we are having and this is what we came up with :)
N.B. Feel free to remind me of my words in a couple of months when its cold and rainy - I have a feeling they will come back and bite me in the as....eh ...apple :)
