Adornment has been a subject of my paintings for many years. Once I read that one of the oldest man-made objects ever discovered was a necklace of shells, which was believed to be a signifier of some social attention. I was intrigued from then on.

The entirety of creation starts from a sublime and energetic generation of life forms. When do we become human? When do we evolve past human? This marvelous depiction of the mating creatures of our world has a beginning of primal energy forces, recombining in infinite variety, still continuing past our current state of being into the future of our humanity.

This oil on canvas measures 5 1/2 feet x 11 feet painted by the artist Mark Henson.

Grave markers and monuments are symbols of the deceased person. Sometimes there was even some humor in the choice of the monument or decorations. These monuments are of two sisters who ran a very successful brothel in Washington, DC during the Civil War. The concrete outline of the plot is called a "bed." The "headboard" of the bed has "Welcome" enscribed on it. Fitting for a brothel.
