Pine needle , leaf caught in water. The most interesting thing about this image was this ..Most of the leaf , and the pine needle was submerged in water and it gave a filter effect ..The one part of droplet on the leaf was not submerged in the water and gave the true color of the leaf...

This monument (the Geo-Needle) marks the beginning of the Jurassic Coast, a spectacular coastline and UNESCO World Heritage Site between Orcombe Point in Devon and Old Harry Rocks in Dorset. UK.

The coastal exposures along the coastline provide a continuous sequence of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous rock formations spanning approximately 185 million years of the Earths history.

To the right of the Geo-Needle is the centre of the MilkyWay Galaxy which is believed to be around 14 billion years old...!

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

Sitting at the far end of the Quiraing range on the Trotternish ridge Isle of Skye, Scotland The needle is a must visit for any keen walker or mountain climber.

I took a ride to the Crawford and Hotchkiss area today. I had no real plan, but I needed out of the house. It is beginning to feel like spring, so I took off about 6 and set off to find a photo.

When I was traveling for my company I especially like the drive from Hotchkiss to Gunnison over Highway 92, the Black Mesa Road. I knew that I didn't want to go to Gunnison, too much work waiting at home, so I drove until it got to be light enough to shoot and stopped and shot, then headed home.

The Needle Rock has always been interesting to me and I found a dirt road that took me closer than I have been before. So here it is, and I can't wait to go back next fall to get those cottonwoods in the bottom in fall colors.

Thanks for looking,

Susan

Goodnight for tonight my lovely friends, thank you for all kind of warm welcome:)

Reach for the sky!

Been revisiting some images from last year and seeing if I can make them somewhat better than I did first time round :-)

its just amazing how many beautiful details the forest can show up...

The Needles Lighthouse at the western end of the Isle of Wight, in the UK. Just before Sunset.

The Needles Overlook is located in the Canyon Rims Special Recreation Management Area south of Moab. You drive about 22 miles on a good dirt road from Highway 191 to reach this vista with unparalleled views over the Needles District of Canyonlands.. We stopped on a cloudy evening, no sunset to light up the red rock and highlight the Colorado River in the distance. It would be a wonderful place to camp on a clear night with unparalleled views of the stars.

Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

This was taken on a rather precarious slope, looking down to The Needle, part of The Quiraing on Skye.

This was a bit tricky to process, as at this time of year the sun is just to the top right out of image.

Because it was so low I couldn't use any filters so this is one image, but I have managed to crop out the blown out sky enough to make a bit more balanced.

Now find the photograph I took of the space shuttle Enterprise landing at JFK Airport.

I took a ride down to Black Canyon Of The Gunnison National Park today. I went there seven years ago, and got nothing! I struggled again today. It is an extremely difficult canyon to shoot. Extremely narrow, and deep, with very dark colored rock. Lighting in impossible. So, my favorite shot of the day was on the drive home. This is Needle Rock, in the town of Crawford, Colorado.

tourist alert: This is a view of the scenic Needles Highway as it winds through tunnels and tall granite spires in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

The western point of the Isle of Wight from the Alun Bay experience. This shot belies the strong wind that was blowing at the time. The weather however was not clement as you can see from the cloud cover..

Ironically, I've not been on top of Space Needle in this past year since I moved to Seattle. Simply because I was never able to justify the cost since I've already visited the tallest building in Seattle, Columbia Center, which probably offers better views at nearly one third of the price.

However, I knew the time will come eventually and I'm glad that it happened not only on the last day of 2014 but also on a day that Seattle is clear of any clouds overhead. My buddy Jin was visiting from California, and not only did he give me the reason to finally visit the Space Needle, also I guess he brought along the sunshine as a much needed gift to end the wonderful year

I must say that the view from there was not any less of what I had seen from Columbia Center, and with Mt Rainier clearly visible in the back gives a good touch to the beautiful Seattle skyline.

....floating on the pond. I was fascinated by the intricate patterns around the needles when I zoomed in on them. It was the surface-tension of the water being disturbed I suppose, but I can't figure out why the patterns should be so 'curly' and ornate. There were originally less needles than this - I fiddled with it and copied some more in for effect. I'll also post the original image straight from the camera.

Caused by sudden drop in temp :)

Was honored to have NBC's Meet the Press ask if they could use this for their iconic 'Images to Remember' on Sunday 10/27/13. Check out the clip here - enjoy! www.nbcnews.com/video/meet-the-press/53388214#53388214

We've had a good run of fog the last month here in Seattle and last night was no exception - and believe it or not, it came with a spectacular sunset! Enjoy and have a beautiful day!!

While hiking to Wabasso Lake, this caught my eye along the way. Had to hurry and take the shot, it seems I'm always being rushed. "Hurry up, what are you looking at?" lol

Shortly after this a fog rolled in.

I shouldn't of been surprised that this tarn froze overnight. The pile of snow in the middle of it is a fine clue.

The final scramble to the summit of Needle is in the center. I camped about 40ft. from here.

Io Valley State Monument, Maui, Hawaii. The Iao Needle (Kūkaemoku) is a famous landmark in the Io Valley state park, a vegetation-covered lava remnant rising 1,200 feet (370 m) from the valley floor or 2,250 feet (690 m) from sea level. The "needle" itself is an illusion, and is in reality a sharp ridge that gives the appearance of being a spire when viewed end-on.The needle is an extension of and surrounded by the cliffs of the West Maui Mountains, an extinct volcano. (Wikipedia) Scanned from a Kodachrome slide. Best viewed large.

Wandering around the Seattle Center on a foggy night with my tripod. And oddly enough, I was the only photographer there. Weird.
