The La Sal Mountains just outside of Moab, UT are some of the most scenic I know!

Image Notes: This is a reprise of one of my first really popular images that I had originally shot on an ancient 4 mp Nikon Coolpix 4500. The key was hitting up this place at the right time of year to still have some greens and at least a bit of snow to work with. I used a polarizer and had a fantastic cloudy sky to cap the scape. No HDR on this one, plenty of DR in the -0.33 EV RAW.

"Keep your clever lines

Hold your easy rhymes

Silence everything

Silence always wins

It’s a perfect alibi

There’s no need to analyze

It will be all right

Through the longest night

Just silence everything

But we could live by the foot of the mountain

We could clear us a yard in the back

Build a home by the foot of the mountain

We could stay there and never come back

Learn from my mistake

Leave what others take

Speak when spoken to

And do what others do

Silence always wins

So silence everything

It will be all right

In the morning light

Just silence everything

But we could live by the foot of the mountain

We could clear us a yard in the back

Build a home by the foot of the mountain

We could stay there and never come back

We could stay there and never come back

We could live together......................................."

A narrow landscape shot with my 70-200 F/4L from the top of Clingman's Dome. I liked how the mountains just seemed to roll on forever. This shot reminds me of one of the stock Windows photos...I happen to like mine better.

Saludos desde Honduras!!

And we must go (one of my favorite quotes from John Muir)....in 3 more days that is (and to AK this time instead of the Rockies), but between work and final preparations, I probably won't be posting anything more until we return Sept 8th. This shot was taken last year on our last morning in Banff National Park.

In fact, we had already left the lodge and were driving down the Trans Canada Highway when I saw the morning sky starting to light up, so I did my usual, "stop the car, pull over fast," grabbed the gear and literally ran to the other side of the wildlife fence to manage a few shots before it faded. Pure mountain bliss!!!!

Many thanks to everyone for all your visits and kind words; I appreciate them all. Will try to check in with everyone at least one more time before we go. Have a great Thursday!!!!!

We passed a lot of beautiful mountain scenery as we drove along the south coast of Iceland, on our way to the Jokulsarlon Iceberg Lagoon. As we passed this rather stunning mountain, we made an impromptu bus stop to capture the mountain and its stunning reflection.

Mountain of pat because the world could be better...

One interesting feature of this shot for me is the reflection of the cloudy sky in the surface of Grasmere in the English Lake Disrtict on my visit in February 2013. The shot was taken from high on the slopes of Loughrigg Fell and looks north towards the mountain pass through to Thirlmere where the road climbs between the peak of Seat Sandal on the right and the crags of Dunmail Raise on the left.

The town of Grasmere sits among the green pastures at the far end of the lake of Grasmere but is itself largely obscured by trees. The peak seen through the pass I am fairly sure is that of Skiddaw; at 931 metres, one of the highest in the Lake District.

The immediate foreground where I was standing was covered in the dead stalks and fronds of bracken, providing quite a contrast of detail to the main landscape composition. It would be a very different environment come summer when the spot would be covered by a tall green stand of the ferns.

The view from the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park. The mountains have their own weather here. Two weather fronts collide in this amazing sky at 8,000 ft. Sorry to post and run but this park has a strong pull.

Our primary destination in Utah this spring was Canyonlands. But a hot day and impassable jeep trails sent us to the La Sal Mountain Road east of Moab. Recent storms had brought new snow to the peaks, and the aspens were coming into leaf at Warner Lake, elevation 9200 ft (2800 m). Happy Fence Friday!

Thanks for stopping by and for all of your support. Hope everyone has a great weekend. We leave Ely tomorrow morning for the final leg of our journey back to Lake Tahoe.
