Hear my dreaming

You'll be drowning

You ought to hear my long snake moan

You ought to see me from my throne

Dunk you under deep salt water

In my dreaming

You'll be drowning

Throughout the fall, I have been moaning about the lack of color in the trees of our neighborhood.

But when I went to visit my mom and sisters and I took a walk around the neighborhood, I was in a virtual HEAVEN of incredible reds, golds and oranges!!!

I took these photos two days before Hurricane Sandy ripped the leaves from the tree branches. Oh did I enjoy the colors!!!

On another happy note, I met two wonderful blogger friends - Joan T.(www.flickr.com/photos/23074176@N08/ and her fabulous blog watercolorsbyjoan2.blogspot.com/) and Susan (www.flickr.com/photos/52358552@N06/).

They joined me for Jean Haines demonstration the Friday evening before her weekend workshop. WHAT FUN! Then Joan and I spent a couple of hours together after the storm passed just chatting and sharing and making plans to get together again. Flickr and blogging have been such blessings to meet the most talented, wonderful, generous and marvelous friends!!!

When I finally was able to return home, most of the color of my own trees was gone, and with temperatures dropping and wind and rain blowing (yes, we got some strong wind and rain from Sandy too), most of the fall color is now behind us.

But since I so LOVE the fall season, these photos will paint my world fabulous colors in the gray days ahead.

Hope you enjoy them too!

No longer mourn for me when I am dead

Then you shall hear the surly sullen bell

Give warning to the world that I am fled

From this vile world, with vilest worms to dwell:

Nay, if you read this line, remember not

The hand that writ it; for I love you so

That I in your sweet thoughts would be forgot

If thinking on me then should make you woe.

O, if, I say, you look upon this verse

When I perhaps compounded am with clay,

Do not so much as my poor name rehearse.

But let your love even with my life decay,

Lest the wise world should look into your moan

And mock you with me after I am gone.

We went over to Moaning Cavern in Calaveras County three days ago, where my sister celebrated her birthday by zip lining and rappelling. We hiked down the spiral staircase shown here to the bottom, and then back up. This picture is a six image vertorama showing the entire length of the staircase and all the way to the roof of the cavern. Moaning Cavern is the largest single chamber public cave in California, and is big enough to hold the Statue of Liberty.

There are 235 stairs from the entrance to the bottom, 144 of which are on the spiral staircase.

The bones of approximately 100 prehistoric humans were found at the bottom of Moaning Cavern. One skull was determined by uranium-thorium dating to be 13,000 years old. It is believed that these people fell into the cave accidentally over many hundreds of years.

I'll be off again for a few weeks, this time to Norway where I hope to get some good shots. I apologize again for not being active lately, but I hope to eventually get back up to speed.

Found this nest with two young Moaning Doves while pruning the Wistera on our trellis this afternoon. Kind of cute so felt terrible when I destroyed their nest to finish pruning. Bummer, I really thought they were ready to fly! …..,Just kidding, shot these pictures and left them alone so Momma Dove could return and feed them. Geeee, I could feel the hate mail coming before I finished typing “Bummer, I really thought they were ready to fly!”
