Avro Lancaster " Just Jane" runs her four Rolls-Royce Merlins for the photographers, at East Kirkby.

A friend told us that there was a family of Merlins near Morrisburg, Ontario. We decided to try our luck a week after he informed us and when we arrive at the scene we immediately spot 2 merlins on the electric poles. Not really the best place to shoot but we took a lot of time to watch them. The 2 merlins then move on the treetops. Then we find 2 others merlins across the street and another one on another post. A very nice family of 5 merlins at the same place

Thank you again Gregory for sharing your finding with us

In the ruins

of the dreams

and the schemes

of men;

when the moon

begets the tide

and the wide

sea sighs;

when a star

appears in heaven

and the raven

cries;

we will dance

and we will revel

in the devil’s

fen ...

if nevermore again.

Yesterday afternoon we decided to travel to my spot to see if we could find osprey. As we were driving out along the dirt drive I saw something dark in the trees. Kipp stopped and I got on my knees to look through the brush and found this Merlin. Happily eating his prey.

Immediately started mashing down on my shutter button in hopes for one good shot.

A first for us - we have never seen a Merlin. Beautiful big bird with no intention of leaving its prey.

Have a lovely day!

A huge crop of a Merlin coming into land with its Dragonfly prey. Unfortunetly while it put on a wonderful display it simply would not come close at all.

This Merlin was perched on the reserve sign at Staveley Nature Reserve as we walked through the gate back in August - totally wild and free. I managed about half a dozen shots before it flew off.

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fav my images.

Merlin (female) always wanted one of these, St Mary's Isles of Scilly

This Merlin had just caught a dragonfly in it's talons. They mostly eat small birds, caught in flight, but they do also eat a variety of large aerial insects. This image was taken a couple of years ago but I only came across it again today when looking through my archives.

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fave my images.
