It’s a nice Gen1 Ford Bronco of the late 1960s-1970s seen at the entrance to a pole vault facility near Menifee, California. We were there to watch our older granddaughter compete.

from my backyard. Cropped, of course, and I added the frame just so I could see if I could make one.

Spratt's Arch

Daniel Boone National Forest

Menifee County

Kentucky

A couple Saturday's ago myself and my good friend Chris Morris took a high octane day trip into Menifee County, Kentucky. By "high octane" I mean fast driving, quick hiking, fast shooting and 88 ounces of ALE8 1! We visited 3 arches, 2 I had never been to before. One of these first time arches was Spratt's Arch. I had seen photos of this arch a few times over the last couple years and I was fully on the fence if I even wanted to visit it. However, I recently discovered it was near one of my favorite arches, Devil's Markethouse Arch and with it being so close we decided to visit it after our trek to The Markethouse. Though we went to it in some convoluted manner which involved some scrambling, climbing, and crossing 1/1 slopes it was still a fun trek and the reward was far cooler than I would have ever thought. Simply put, this hole in the rock was pretty photogenic. Mother nature was not making it easy on us either, as we fought some drizzle and blustery winds passing through the arch which had the foliage whipping around like crazy. I'll definitely say this, I'll be back to visit this one. Though not the most beautiful arch I've seen, I'd like to see it in all 4 seasons!

Had to shoot something today...

The view from Longbow after the sun disappeared behind the mountains.

the moon was amazing this morning, but I barely was up in time to catch these pictures. The color is off but what the hell :) This one was taken through my upstairs window, where I had a better view. I'll post another below.

Happy New Year!!!

I just can't capture the color of this one -- but it is close here. It is dark like blood. This is the first to open -- in my own backyard :)

I should be able to get more practice on this one... there are buds ready to burst all over!

I did a couple shots of this, with the moon in focus or the branches. Really like the branches in focus but maybe not as much as this.

I went back to visit the burrowing owls again later in the day, and with my bigger lens. This is still cropped and I found out that bigger is not always better -- this lens is too soft at full zoom. But at least you can see them... and I thought it was worth sharing :)

RadioShack's final store in the region is now closing!

Murrieta and Menifee lost their RadioShacks at the same time, then Temecula South at Vail Ranch (Walmart Supercenter) closed and now Palm Plaza is shutting down leaving according to the sales clerk only Fallbrook, Lake Elsinore and Hemet open...

Guess what I bought!? I also got the little label holder with the sign!

It's looking like an early summer to me! Happy Flowery Friday to you :)

The weekend of the Valentine day holiday is always one of the busiest times of year for the hot air balloon ride business. Normally the winter months are slow but we get a big boost of business around February 14 always. But normally the weather is borderline too windy, rainy, cold and wintery by southern California standards and we sometimes cancel flights or otherwise just fly but in very difficult conditions. Some of my scariest flights ever have been around this time of year.

But this year things are different. We have had this massive high pressure dome like never before almost all winter! The weather is so warm, almost hot, with brilliant sunshine, not a cloud in the sky anywhere. The flying weather has been absolutely perfect. Warm, sunny, super clear skies, perfect winds.

Next week finally the forecast calls for a return to winter type weather. And that's fine. We like to get some cold air and rain and snow in the mountains. But we are so happy that the Valentine day weekend turned out to be perfect summer-like weather.

Because everywhere I look, I see one of them Duck Dynasty guys.

Much improved when you view on Black.

I'll be back to my garden shots shortly, but my husband found this little frog living in out back and I finally got close enough to get a picture!

The City of Menifee, California; like Murrieta is going thru a growth spurt and getting nice things too!

A new Buffalo Wild Wings in Menifee, CA. across the street and not pictured due to lack of time a new Forever 21 replaced an Old Navy and HomeGoods replaced the closed Sports Chalet, will try and get photos another day.

I see this bird every time I drive in or out of our neighborhood, watching an empty field. I have stopped to get pictures but she always flies away... but this time I got it! She is up on a light post far enough above that I didn't spook her, I guess, when I stopped the car and rolled down the window to get this shot.

Even in Southern California, we cheer for the NHL Edmonton Oilers hockey team. At least I am. Go Oilers Go

a chilly evening in Southern California.

I spotted these guys in a field near my house today on the way home from the grocery store! January 8, 2013.

Here is the long cold finger of a single, continuous collosal icicle that extends from the top of Broke Leg Falls to its resting place at the bottom.

A trip to Broken Leg Falls in Menifee County, KY yielded much rain but also some late fall color and waterflow.

Oddly enough this was not a Sprint co-branded store...

I was down at a local lake where my husband was fishing last Friday and this hawk flew right past me while walking the dog! It was just amazing to see her, so close to us, overlooking the field behind the park.

Following the heavy rains that fell in Southern California in mid January '09, some of the neighbouring fields were flooded around Wilderness Lakes NACO in Menifee. The clouds and the distant mountains were beautifully reflected in this one. (10-01-23-2882)
