Wood River Wetlands is like a mini eco system. There is a beautiful trail lined with trees and a swamp on both sides until you reach the lake. The many varieties of birds were flying back and forth. A treat to find in your binocular view field, the Cedar Waxwing is a silky, shiny collection of brown, gray, and lemon-yellow, accented with a subdued crest, rakish black mask, and brilliant-red wax droplets on the wing feathers.

Thank you for taking the time to visit, comment, fave or invite. I really appreciate them all.

The Mask: a syncronicity

An extraordinary multi-media performance by Jo Ellsmere, Pyewacket Kazyanenko and Kai Steamer, utilizing movement and music to express the theme of Carmen Auletta's poem, "The Mask."

I found a couple who were interested in photography. So I took their photo. I asked them to take off their masks, but they saide they'd rather stay incognito!

Venetian masks are a centuries-old tradition of Venice, Italy. The masks are typically worn during the Carnival (Carnival of Venice), but have been used on many other occasions in the past, usually as a device for hiding the wearer's identity and social status

1st flight test shot with the e-m1 mk ii. It took me over 6 weeks to upload ;-)

We wear the mask that grins and lies,

It hides our cheeks and shades our

eyes,--

This debt we pay to human guile;

With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,

And mouth with myriad subtleties.

Why should the world be over-wise,

In counting all our tears and sighs?

Nay, let them only see us, while

We wear the mask.

Silverdale, NSW. We got onto this guy just after finding the Feathertail glider the other night. At the time we weren't certain whether we were looking at a pale male Masked Owl or a Barn Owl but upon reviewing the photos, the birds large feet, stocky and fully feathered legs and plumage features on the wings and around the face have confirmed it as a Masked Owl.

Tsonokwa Mask or Wild Woman of the Woods Mask is carved in red cedar and signed by Native Master Carver Chief Tony Hunt from the Kwakwaka'wakw Nation

Tsonokwa is venerated as a bringer of wealth, but is also greatly feared by children, because she is also known as an ogress who steals children and carries them home in her basket to eat.

Her appearance is that of a black coloured, old monster with long pendulous breasts. She is also described as having bedraggled hair.

In masks and totem pole images she is shown with bright red pursed lips because she is said to give off the call "Hu!" It is often told to children that the sound of the wind blowing through the cedar trees is actually the call of Tsonokwa.

Some myths say that she is able to bring herself back from the dead (an ability which she uses in some myths to revive her children) and regenerate any wound. She has limited eyesight, and can be easily avoided because she can barely see.

She is also said to be rather drowsy and dim-witted. She possesses great wealth and will bestow it upon those who are able to get control of her child.

All the masks in one.
