March Stitchalong on Feeling Stitchy, blogged here

Week 2 of the March Stitchalong - it's kind of a birthday stitchalong! :)

Continuation of the March Stitchalong for Feeling Stitchy

An embroidery blog I follow, Feeling Stitchy, usually has a monthly Stitch-Along project. I hardly ever remember to do it in time, ha, but this month I just had to! The pattern, this adorable little donkey pinata, was perfect! My father has been going on business trips to Mexico lately and has brought me back a Mexican woven blanket, a La Carina figurine, and a Dia de los Muertos box shrine thingie, so I've definitely been feelin' the Mexican-inspired design and color palette. So this little fellow fit right in!

Just to up the color factor, I chose a green fabric for the ground instead of plain white or cream, ha.

¡Feliz cumpleaños, Feeling Stitchy!

(Translation: Happy birthday!)

I shrunk down the original pattern but to give you an idea of how small it is I framed it in a 4 inch hoop

Yup, Feeling Stitchy is turning 5! Mollie of Wild Olive created sweet patterns in honor of our birthday. :)

Soon it will be a pincushion, you can kind of get the idea from the felt and ric rac. I felt sort of bad that I would be sticking pins in the pinata, but then figured ill-treatment is sort of it's job description, lol.

I know the pattern had smiles on all the balloons but I thought a frown would be appropriate since he's stuck in the tree. :)

I used the cute cake to made a banner to decorate my house in birthdays time!

pinata stitched onto a tee for my little chick

I tried out using the embroidery transfer paper stuff and it stinks :(

most of it had rubbed off by the time I finished the horse so I ended up having to almost free hand most of what you see.

I'm thinking I'm just going to free hand the zig-zags too. Instead of pulling out a bunch of planned thread colors, I'm using up whatever floss strands I have in my little thread scraps tin.

My favourite of the set. A combination of a little more experience and colours which are a bit more 'me' than the bright ones in the other 3.

Close up of the gifts.

i got a late start but i'm almost finished!

From my beginning color sketch out to in the hoop to finished stuffie, this stitchalong was an utter delight!

First attempt at a satin stitch

Here's the lay out of my planning for the Stitchalong ~ I made a colored version to mark where I wanted which colors and I think it turned out great!

This is my festive take on the March Stitchalong, which was so much fun to take part in! I am really proud of this cutie since it's the most satin stitch I've ever done.

Second in the FeelingStitchy March stitchalong set. Used two threads this time... who knows, I might even attempt a different stitch on the next set. (gasp!)

I stitched this on a sheet of card stock to make a birthday card for my Gram.

My first bash at a feelingstitchy stitchalong. Also the popping of my embroidery cherry as I have not done anything outside cross stitch before.

They're all a little wonky, but hopefully I'll have my technique down by the time I've done the 4th set :-p

First ever stitchalong (and first ever embroidery): complete :-D

I am now a little bit less intimidated by embroidery. And excited to see what next month's will be.
