I wish my soul was so well mapped out and crystal clear.

Please tag yourself on this shot and let me know where you stand in my map before my brain forgets it all. I would really be happy to have your name on that shot, just because flickr really counts for me, and so you do. Thanks.

I love you, Esser.

Araschnia levana f. prorsa, 2nd brood.

These butterflies have two broods each year, but unusually both broods have a different form and look completely different, the first brood looks similar to a small tortoiseshell Click Here while this second brood looks more like a smaller white admiral.

Limoges, France.

A Map butterfly pupa attached to a Stinging Nettle leaf. The Map is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It is common throughout the lowlands of central and eastern Europe, and is expanding its range in western Europe.

The plane which I was on flew into Lima due to bad weather at it's original destination, Iquitos...

From there, a later plane was taken to Iquitos and the plan was to join a boat a little down river from there....( travelling down to it by canoe with small motor ). It is a recent realisation that I had travelled by plane or boat from the West Coast to the East, arriving a little south of the marked route into Belem and then up the coast to French Guiana and the Surinam border.......

Before to get lost, find a map, and prepare a good route. It's better than just run without plans, trust me !

Mapping Dreams

The Art of Marc-Antoine Mathieu, 3 June – 15 October 2017

Museum Angewandte Kunst

Schaumainkai (Museumsufer) 17

60594 Frankfurt am Main

"His drawing style is unmistakable: the clear black line he handles with such infinite variation and consummate skill, the elaborate play of shadows along the boundary between reality and the imagination. The Frenchman Marc-Antoine Mathieu is considered one of the most innovative comic artists of the present.

For thirty years he has been publishing albums that change and break the rules and codes of the genre. With precise draughtsmanship and profound linguistic wit, they show readers unaccustomed perspectives and provide insights into the enigma of things.

The exhibition Mapping Dreams: The Art of Marc-Antoine Mathieu introduces visitors to the œuvre of this exceptional storyteller and translates the reading experience of his disconcertingly surreal and labyrinthine comic-book realms into the museum interior. From 3 June to 15 October 2017, an exceptional exhibition design builds the bridge to Mathieu’s comic cosmos. Room-filling installations and adaptations of passageway and transition motifs from his works bring the intricate self-reflective / meta-reflective structures of his stories to life and turn the narrative quality and imaginative force of his comic œuvre into an intense sensorial experience.

The show also presents a selection of more than fifty original drawings, and thus a cross-section of the albums produced by the draughtsman, writer and scenarist since the early 1990s, as well as unpublished sequences from his current work in progress. Bronze sculptures and animated films by Mathieu are also on view, broadening his narrative palette by offering alternative mediums of access to his œuvre."

I've been thinking about how to automatically divide up cities into neighbourhoods that make sense to their inhabitants, without having to rely on the official naming/mapping schemes.

I wanted to translate descriptive phrases like "the area around Oxford Circus" into actual polygons, so I took a database of the locations of the Underground stations and made a Voronoi diagram from them. If you look closely you should see that each black polygon has a tube stop roughly in the middle of it.

We could use these polygons to partition a set of city data and bring human-readable tubestop names to the analysis of it.
