I really couldn't decide which way to head out. Conditions were forecast to be calm and I suspected, like others, that there might be mist in the valleys. Should I go to Mam Tor or Chrome Hill. But I didn't want to do the same as everyone else, but if I did go to Mam Tor I would set out to photograph the crowd of photographers all primed with their filters to get a sunrise shot, just like the guy next to them. Nope, I don't get on with the types that think that photography can only be done at sunset or dawn and the perfect shot is a landscape without any humans in it, and a big orangey blob on the horizon.

So I pointed the car east over the hills and headed towards Longnor where I guessed I might find a veil of white stuff. I didn't have to look far as I dipped into the Manifold Valley. But today's conditions were strange. You normally find mist under clear skies but we had cloud too. That gave yellowy light as the sun tried to burn through but the mist remained white in the valley where the sunlight didn't reach. It created an unusually 'mixed' effect.

I haven't explored this area before but I must return as it is abundantly clear it is....just beautiful.

I spotted this exhaling Harley fan on Chicago's Mag Mile during a recent photowalk with JB_Atlanta. It's grainy because we'd just come up from shooting underground on lower Michigan Avenue and I hadn't yet adjusted my ISO. I'm sharing it with you anyway so as to continue with my cloud theme from my previous post :) Enjoy what's left of your weekend Flickr friends! Light it up :)

Another from mid morning today looking down the Manifold Valley and Thors cave.

I was lucky to get this, It wasn't planned but I always like to try and go somewhere else after a morning sunrise shot, and whilst the mist was lingering I knew mist would be down here, and sure enough it was.

Not for long though it was dissipating as I arrived on location, I wanted to get 100 meters closer but could tell it was clearing so I had to make do with this frame, and to be honest I like it!

I'm happy that the cave is visible any more mist and it would have been obscured from view. Many happy memories from Manifold Valley and Thors cave as a child, and taking my children too.

Had a quick visit this evening to Manifold Valley and decided to take another look at this vantage point.

Got some nice light in the end

Made it a more interesting evening as I had to get back to Stoke with the fuel gauge on 15 miles from Wetton Mill! (some 20 miles away)

Kind of hard not to take photos when you have a tree like this in the foreground.

An early start up onto Ecton Hill to catch the Hawthorn in blossom this morning.

Was rewarded with some great side light that hit the side of the tree and Thors Cave perfectly.

Been pondering over this one. I like it, I think I came that little bit to far down the hill into the mist as its obscuring the entrance to the Cave.

Still not sure.

Peak District National Park.

Explored 07/09/19

Probably one of my new favorite places in the White Peak. Had a wander up last weekend at evening to admire the view.

Reminded me of my visit to LA last year, brown dry landscape.

Managed to get some half decent light, but the sky was cloudless.

Still had a very pleasant peaceful evening.

Went for another attempt at Manifold Valley & Thors Cave last night, I know at this time of the year the sun sets behind me and its always a great shot a few hours before sunset as the light shines onto the rock face of Thors Cave....However I wanted capture a colorful sky instead!

Prior to this shot I was watching the sun set over Butterton Village up over the hill behind me, and this was took walking back to the car, It really did catch me of guard a little as I didn't think any colours would come through from the evening sunset but as I walked down I could see the colours getting stronger and stronger so decided to setup. It lasted all of a few minutes, just enough to capture this shot and a few others.

The badlands at Zabriskie Point.

Death Valley National Park

The lower reaches of the River Manifold, just before its confluence with the River Dove. The flat topped hill to the right is Thorpe Cloud and the buildings to the centre right are The Isaac Walton Hotel.

Cold and calm are the right ingredients for valley mist; but it didn’t happen. The frost was pretty though!

A stunning morning up on Ecton Hill. I was showing the best vantage point to www.73in73.com for Thors Cave for their charity challenge to shoot 73 Peak District Locations in 73 days following James Grants book.

We had tried from another close location a few days before this at sunset and it was a poor outcome. I was heading up here anyway so I thought it would be nice to invite them if they wanted to witness this amazing view - the weather conditions certainly helped

Oft when the white, still dawn lifted the skies and pushed the hills apart, I have felt it like a glory in my heart.

Yep sometimes you see something that turns you all gooey.

I quite like the lack of tones frost bring
