The chrysanthemums flowers occur in various forms. This is example here i from our garden.
Yu-Fen I found it very interesting but I guess you know this already that the chrysanthemums were cultivated in China as a flowering herb as far back as the 15th century BC! An ancient Chinese city was named Ju-Xian, meaning "chrysanthemum city".
The flower was brought to Europe in the 17th century. Linnaeus named it from the Greek prefix chrys-, which means golden (the colour of the original flowers), and -anthemon, meaning flower.

Ants farming aphids. When a particular aphid is not producing enough honeydew, the ant will gently pick it up in its jaws and move it to another location. Despite it being a well observed behaviour that is well known in ants, it is actually not that common to see. In 8hrs of watching ants I saw it only 2-3 times. Usually the ants move quickly and they may not displace the aphids very far away. Getting shots is usually made more difficult by the foliage that has to be moved thus disturbing the ant causing it to drop the aphid.

This pseudophyllinae has a trick up its skirt. When startled or threatened it will open its wings to reveal bright, vibrant colours which indicate aposematism or potential toxicity to would be predators. Furthermore, large eyespots on either wing mimic avian eyes which would give most predators pause. Finally, the wings stay open long enough for the perceived threat to accustom itself, at which point the katydid will promptly close its wings, returning to full camouflage mode, leaving the predator still searching for the bright colours which are now folded out of view.

Yesterday the tire flew off my minibus, I cut the head off a pit viper and I was banned from a commercial flight by associating with a narco-trafficker. Today I am bushwhacking through the jungle in the remote trail-less backwaters of Guyana, waist deep in water and praying to make it through the rest of the day alive. What will tomorrow bring? God only knows. The adventure starts here- pbertner.wordpress.com/.
i wanted to post something cheery and colorful and beautiful today to offset yesterday's disastrous storm that went thru our county...one of the worst storms i've seen tore thru most of Lake County yesterday morning which caused massive damage, tore huge trees into half, some trees were even uprooted in our neighborhood and more that 800,000 households lost power...when i got home yesterday, my whole yard looked liked there was a tornado that went thru...there were torn tree branches everywhere, debris was littered across the yard and my backyard patio furniture was strewn all over the place...was very tired from work but had to clean it all up before getting in the house...this morning, i drove around the neighborhood to see the extent of the storm damage and was impressed by how powerful that storm was...we were lucky that our power was turned back on at around noontime, coz from what i've heard, some areas might not get power for the next 3-5 days...i salute everyone involved for the clean up and restoring of power to all differerent areas in the county...after seeing all the destruction, i decided to just drive out to the Chicago Botanic Gardens to do some macro shots and this was one of the frames i shot that i really liked because of the colors and the beautiful green bokeh...stay safe y'all....pls. Found several kms away from the entrance to Ranomafana national park. In a small creek with slow moving water, their call, a short 'pink' can be heard. They generally call from low lying areas, seldom exposing themselves. Found during the day.

This is actually one of my favourites that I've taken so far. Though not technically the best, I love the colours and pose of the thomisid. Found during a night hike in Kaieteur national park, Guyana.

This spider may not be a looker, but it sure is robust and exceptionally patient, lying in wait for long periods of time for food.
