The mouthparts of the mantis have always fascinated me. I was lucky enough to get an 'up and under' shot of this character.

As well as the complicated parts, the little 'blue lip' is an interesting feature which seems to be quite common on the False Garden Mantid (Pseudomantis albofimbriata)

An overhead view of a Tachinid fly - this one with a peculiarly long 'snout' in my experience. They tend usually to have a shorter or blunter head. Hence the title.

Found during a night hike in Kbal Spean, Cambodia.

Taken in my back yard.

March 8, 2009 #382 Explored and now out!

This is a long-legged fly (Dolichopodidae) which decided to land on a tomato I was cutting yesterday. Luckily my macro kit was nearby so I took advantage.

The eyes came out that iridiscent on the RAW image so I left them that way.

There is a 3/4 shot in the first comment field. He was about 5mm in length

A small Jumping Spider (Salticidae sp.) sort of balancing on the turn of a leaf. These versions are particularly inquisitive and brave. It is generally these which jump up onto the camera when being photographed in my experience.

Great little characters.

[ENG] The srtawberry tree is a shrub of everlasting leaf of the family of the ericáceas, with alternate leaves, white flowers and red eatable fruit that lives about the Mediterranean region and in the part Europa's west. The fruit, named arbutus, they are berries of yellowish meat, they are late one year in maturing (the flowers coexist with the fruits in the same plant), they are yellow and acid up to reaching his maturity that are sweet and red. His consumption in big quantities is indigestible. The sugars transform partially in alcohol when they have matured in exces. They have uses pharmacological and ornamental.

Get ready to be pollinated :)

Not very much internet access this week (but on the plus side lots of waves!) so apologies for lack of comments / visits, normal service (ie; real life) will be resumed sometime soon (unfortunately :)

A small Jumping Spider (Salticidae sp.) in an 'in yer face' pose.

That little emerald tiara look of the eight eyes around the head is fascinating. Like most jumpers, this little fellow was just as interested in me as I was him.

I love these little beasties.

We have a yard full of these beauties that some folks

disdain but we enjoy them as do the rabbits. Clover as well, the rabbits love them! Oh there is some grass between it all just to make it look a little bit more like

an average lawn.

Not going to make it to Cowes for the fireworks tonight, so I had some fun with a macro lens, very shallow dof, and a spiders web in deep space instead.
