LibraryThing.com Bookpile submission: won an honorable mention! Which really just meant a mention on the site.

I thought it would be fun to set the table with a Silpat for a placemat, cooking utensils for silverware and Benjamin Franklin's "Fart Proudly" in place of a napkin. What better way to welcome guests to dinner than to encourage them to just be themselves!

Then I got carried away with flour and a rolling pin, Pain hot sauce on top of spicy recipe cookbooks, dieting cookbooks on a cake stand, the beer chicken stand holding the little black BBQ book.... Wait, you're telling me that there are better ways to spend my Friday evenings than arranging books and associated tools for a photo shoot? Whoa.

My first thought on the theme was of a bookpile cooking (much smarter than me, I keep forgetting apron)

Second thought on the theme was cooking books.

We don't really cook as much in the microwave as we did when the boys were young, although Cricket did a lot of his own cooking this way when Fish was just a baby.

"Fish" is 9yo, when given the theme this was his idea. (I later urged the boys to use that potato to carve potato stamps)

The bookpile cooking looks a little warmer with the light on.

I get international cookbooks for Christmas ever year, but this year we were taking a friend home late up near Little India and I was able to stop off and buy some special ingredients at 10:30 on Christmas Eve. I love Chicago.

For the LibraryThing Cooking Book bookpile contest. Features the now out-of-print cookbook by Salvador Dali, "Les Diners de Gala," which includes his favorite (bizarre and unusual!) recipes, as well as original culinary-oriented paintings by him. In the stack are my favorite cookbooks, among them the fabulously retro Esquire cookbook and the colorful Spice Islands cookbook. See my LibraryThing account at phylactery.
