The Wilhelmina Pier is a highly urbanized former harbour area in the 'Kop van Zuid' in Rotterdam.
The area is located along the river Meuse at the foot of the 'Erasmus Bridge' and since the turn of the century characterized by high-rise and modern amenities. In 2001 the 'New Luxor Theatre' was built on the Wilhelmina Pier. In 2006 the first high-rise residential building Montevideo [by Meccano architects] was delivered. At the end of 2010 the tallest residential tower in the Netherlands 'New Orleans' completed, inside it the 'LantarenVenster' cinema and theatre. But the Pier is still developing, with the construction of De Rotterdam in full swing. Early 2013 the highest point of 150 meters was reached. Later in 2013 the building, designed by Rem Koolhaas, will be delivered.
Formerly the Wilhelminakade, stretching out along the entire length of the pier, is a quay from which many ships left for America. The pier has become a symbol of the 19th-and 20th-century emigration to America. Hotel New York, the former headquarters of the Holland America Line, with its distinctive copper domed towers is one of the emblematic buildings. After the departure of the 'HAL' in 1971 a master plan for the redevelopment of the area designed by 'Sir Norman Foster' in 1992. In 2000 for the 'Port of Rotterdam' he created the 'World Port Center', the first high-rise forming the backdrop behind 'Hotel New York'. The Wilhelminapier is also host to the wonderful Dutch Fotomuseum inside the 'Las Palmas' building. In the years to come, the area will develop further into a sophisticated, metropolitan part of the city center of Rotterdam.

Shot during a show of the amazing B-Movie Orchestra. The orchestra plays film scores of B-Movies of the 60s and 70s while these films are projected behind them on a cinamascreen. It's a modern version of the way cinema once started, with an organ or an orchestra playing in "the pit". And what an electrifying experience it was.
In 2/3 s of the tracks the Cinematic Fever Girls played an important role, elevating the cinematic voice to new levels. It's scat, Anita Kerr and Laurie Anderson rolled into one great vocal package.
The films: from Dirty Harry to Vampyros Lesbos. With spaghetti westerns, Mexican horror and Schulmädchen-Report in between.

15/10/2011; The Lantaren Venster is a movie and music theatre, but you can eat quite nicely over here as well.

In deze workshop gaan leerlingen terwijl zij een soundtrack maken het concept van sound design in games onderzoeken. In filmtheater LantarenVenster wordt met voorbeelden gekeken hoe geluiden bij games worden gemaakt. In het actieve deel van de sessie maken de leerlingen eigen samples en mixen deze in een GameVideo.
