The best camping trip ever this year. I drove to Lake Tahoe at the end of September and camped at Fallen Leaf Lake for a couple days. It was warm and sunny with a few clouds for interest. My first day was perfect and I was blown away by the weather.

I could walk to the lake from my campsite and did so many times during my stay. It made being there early very easy and the natural conditions of the lake were pleasing to the eye and access to the whole lake along the edges made finding other lighting conditions useful.

I started by shooting at the closest point and gravitated to less occupied areas as they became needed. I cooled off the first night by photographing the sunset while standing knee deep in the water with my tripod. Then the- next morning I came back before the sunrise and shot a sequence of pictures as the sun rose to light up mount Tallac and the rest of the lake. Very moving experience and all alone till eight when I left. Sleeping in the back of the truck, zero dollars, Taking shots using already purchased equipment, zero dollars, standing in paradise instead of working for peanuts, priceless.

This is the second Baduk lake having an average size. It looks like a river and is in the middle of a forest and mountain hills. A great place to sit and dream.

Это второе Бадукское озеро имеющее средний размер. Выглядит вытянутым как река и находится среди леса и горных холмов. Отличное место чтобы посидеть и помечтать.

Sunset at Emerald Lake, This was using a 3 stop ND filter and a 3 stop reverse graduated filter if i remember correctly leading to the extra tint in the sky.

Maybe not 100% accurate as to how it was, but it looks cool!

Lake Eacham is a crater lake near Yungaburra on the Atherton Tablelands. You can swim in the lake, though apparently there is a resident crocodile (not sure how just one got in there....).

It's average depth is 65 metres and it's very clear. A late afternoon walk around the lake revealed these beautiful reflections. Unfortunately a little too cold for swimming.

It is part of the Crater Lakes National Park and the Queensland Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.

Beautful reflections on teh lake at Sunset

This is another view of Helenbar Lake in Mississagi Provincial Park. This is the view from the outback site.

This lake has an interesting tale attached to it. Helenbar Lake is the site of Canada’s first jet plane accident. In 1946, RCAF Lt. William “Hugh” Mackenzie was forced to crash land the Gloster Meteor he was flying (on loan to Canada from England for winterization trials) after first getting lost in a severe thunder storm and then running out of fuel on his way from Kauskasing (in northern Ontario) to Toronto.

Mackenzie miraculously survived the crash. Protocol dictated that he was required to stay at the site of the crash and await rescue. However, although the search planes circled, they could not see him. The poor guy was left to survive in the rugged backcountry for 3 weeks living on berries (since he lost his survival pack while swimming to shore. BTW, the berries didn't ripen until closer to the end of his ordeal. I understand he lost nearly 50lbs! Oh, also, I want to stress that this happened on June 29th. That meant that he had to endure both mosquito season plus the tail end of the blackfly season! ...perhaps it was 50lb of blood lost to the vampire bugs?!)

Eventually Mackenzie realized that he needed to break protocol and seek his own rescue. But this is where the story gets sketchy (like a big fish story perhaps?). One version is that he heard some fishermen over in Semiwite Lake and got rescued there. Another version is that he made it through the rugged, roadless wilderness all the way to Flack Lake where he was able to flag down the rescue fishermen. Or, the splitting of hairs version of him being rescued on Christman Lake. Which ever version is the real one, what we DO know is that his 23 day ordeal finally ended when he managed to signal a fishing party from the nearby Laurentian Lodge.

The military removed most of the plane but water and ice eventually dumped the wing-tip fuel tanks at the end of the Helenbar Lake portage route. They are now protected by the Provincial Parks Act.

Mississagi Provincial Park now has a 22km Mackenzie Trail, named after Lt Mackenzie.

Just a little lake back in the foothills of East Gilroy...first stop before hiking up into the hills...

This was a calm evening on Lake Wassookeag in Dexter, Maine after sundown. This is a very clean spring fed lake.

An oldie from the summer of 2010. This series has been greatly appreciated, so I guess I should follow it through. I'm pretty happy with it myself.

Gull Lake is in the northeast corner of Michigan's Kalamazoo County. I took this shot along the west shore of the lake while enroute to the Gilmore Car Museum, which is a few miles north of the lake, at Hickory Corners.
