Winter conditions slowly take hold of the Cariboo Mountains as they remain enshrouded behind a stormy veil over Bowron Lake. In the in 1860’s the first Europeans came to the Cariboo Mountains to find their fortunes, as part of what became known as the first Cariboo Gold Rush. Originally referred to simply as “Bear Lake” it was eventually renamed Bowron Lake after John Bowron, the first Gold Commissioner of the nearby gold mining town Barkerville, who organised numerous exploration parties into the remote mountains to look for gold-bearing ground. The Emporor Lake at Chatsworth.... March 2016

The village of Lake Placid in New York, home of the 1980 winter Olympics, is centered closer to Mirror Lake than it’s namesake Lake Placid. Mirror Lake has a walkway around it’s perimeter, and the trendy shopping is along it’s banks. From what I could tell, most of Lake Placid is surrounded by upscale homes with no trespassing signs!

Just a few travel pix I wanted to share. Still uploading from the first day with sunny skies!

Took a trip down to the South Shore to go hiking near Emerald Bay. This is Eagle Lake which is about 2 miles hike in from the Falls at the main road. Well worth the hike though. Beautiful granite fields, amazing hidden water falls...

I didn't take many 'proper' photos in New Zealand - and am not happy with most of those I did take. Here's one that I think is Ok-ish. The light was stunning as we drove from Wanaka on the South Island towards Franz Josef Glacier. This may look a bit 'overprocessed' but it really was every bit this vibrant.

Vaseux Lake is a freshwater lake located along the course of the Okanagan River in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. Also known as Indian Head Mountain.

McIntyre Bluff is a historic landmark at the south end of the lake. This landmark is named after Peter McIntyre, one of the Overlanders of 1862 who had also been a guard on the Pony Express in the American West.

First Nations in the area tell a story of a battle centuries ago on top of McIntyre Bluff. An enemy war party from the south (now Washington State) was lured to the top and driven over the cliffs.

Thanks for your visit, comments, faves and support. Always appreciated!

Lake Champlain......... I've never saw the water so blue.

Looking out at the wide vistas surrounding the lake.

Convict Lake - California

I tried to use the lake floor as much as I could to off center the lack of character in the sky. I stepped out into the water which was about knee high and planted my tripod in between some cracks in the rocks. I was kind of nervous because I was using a rented lens and I'm pretty sure there is a clause in the contract that says don't step out into a lake with our equipment attached to your camera.

Anyways, this lake is 7,850 feet up and is super clear and cold.

Lake Blue or Tasik Biru, the beautiful lake in Kundang, Selangor

We had one night at Fox Glacier while in NZ and after walking up to see the glacier we had to quickly come back down and jump in the car to get to a location for sunset which was Lake Matheson which is known for its amazing reflections of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman.

After having quite thick cloud cover all day it finally cleared just as we got there and the beauty of these mountains were revealed!

Day 4 Travers Sabine Circuit, Nelson Lakes National Park, New Zealand.

This is Blue Lake - a side trip from the circuit and part of the Te Araroa Trail - a long distance trail covering the length of NZ.

The colour of the lake changed as the weather conditions changed.

The water level is very very low here. This is a rather deep and cold lake. It has bass and trout, among other fish.

Sunset at Sprague Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. We arrived in Estes Park late in the evening so we had to hurry over to the park to try to catch the sunset. The weather wasn't too cooperative but we were able to catch a little color. Hallett Peak is in the background.

A cold and moody day at Lake Marian. Often the cloud will burn off, but not on this day.

The only way to obtain this wide view was to shoot a series of portraits and stitch them together (with Hugin via digikam). It only took me a few years to get around to completing the post-processing.

Shot taken at the Braies Lake, in Trentino Alto Adige, Italy.
