A SERIES OF CANDLE-LIT LANTERNS:

before the winter over here started i handmade a series of about 200 lanterns out of paper, and lit the images stenciled on them with candles lighting them up: www.flickr.com/photos/thisislimbo/sets/72157600304155485/ .

but as the rain got more and more frequent, it thought i would postpone it until the weather was more sympathetic. now that it is, i thought about trying to make it a little more developed and the attached pics are what cam out of it.all the brighter spaces are the candlelight shining through rice paper applied to a cut-out hole in the cardboard.

what i like about the lanterns is that it deals with the frail temporary aspect of putting up art in street.if i take the best case scenario (that nobody takes the piece after a short while and there are no extreme winds or rain) then the longest life span of these pieces will be that of the candles, which is probably just a few hours. therefore, when someone runs into it on the street they know that it was placed there not so long ago and they, by coincidence, got there in the small time frame that the piece was "active", hopefully giving them the feeling that it was placed there especially for them, and maybe guiding them, following them home and subtly lighting up their way.

being at the right place at the right time, i had a chance of running into a rad girl with this piece of mine recently added to her leg. was an amazing coincidence and totally blew me away.

candle-lit lanterns:

two characters each placed on two buildings, each on the other side of the street bound by the ties of paper-cup phones.

the string is basically connecting one figure that on a roof, to another on the balcony of a building on the other side, with a string hanging above the whole street and its happenings.

for more info on the lanterns check out www.flickr.com/photos/thisislimbo/sets/72157600304331427/

Helicopter parent is a colloquial, early 21st-century term for a parent who pays extremely close attention to his or her child's or children's experiences and problems, particularly at educational institutions. These parents rush to prevent any harm or failure from befalling them and will not let them learn from their own mistakes, sometimes even contrary to the children's wishes. They are so named because, like helicopters, they hover closely overhead, rarely out of reach, whether their children need them or not. In Scandinavia, this phenomenon is known as curling parenthood and describes parents who attempt to sweep all obstacles out of the paths of their children
