Spectacular "tufa towers," calcium-carbonate spires and knobs formed by interaction of freshwater springs and alkaline lake water.

Pilot Knob State Park - Iowa
This was taken almost a week ago, and the colors are all but gone! The last shot i posted of this very area had our first light snow on 10.14.18.
It's where I go to pause, listen to nature, breath fresh air and hike. It's my "Big Time Out!" :)

Today we are celebrating 0 degree Celsius. It snowed aver 18 cm by 8:00 a.m. today. So schools were closed and children had a joyous Snow Day—a sort of extended Christmas Break. Have a wonderful day...
I visited this awesome old structure in the ghost town of White Knob while on a tour put on in conjunction with Idaho Archaeology & Historic Preservation Month. The tour was led by the Mayor of nearby Mackay Idaho, Wayne Olsen.
This is the Headhouse where the ore was brought from the mine and readied to go down the hill to Mackay.
Fog rolling in over Black Balsam Knob, Pisgah National Forest, NC. I had spent the previous night at the top of the mountain (6214'). The night was relatively clear until a bank of clouds covered the mountain right around sunrise. The clouds finally broke right after I packed up my campsite, and this is the result, looking east across North Carolina.
series: Last Orders
From a site of two derelict buildings in the dOKUMENTA city of Kassel that over 40 years ago housed BIER GROSSHANDLUNG NEUENHAGEN, a wholesale German beer distribution company.
A dear flickr contact who runs a construction company in the process of clearing out and renovating this site generously provided me access to photograph on August 16, 2012.
"Last Orders" is what pub owners call out to their customers, a few minutes before closing time.

Amazing what kind of images you can capture with an iPhone....I don't use the camera feature that often but decided it would come in handy while we were traveling around Alaska, as I could keep family back home updated on our daily adventures. Didn't even realize it had a panorama feature until I accidentally hit the options button, and well, I had a good time attempting to capture the essence of what we were seeing. Even with all the dreary, rainy weather, it was still a beautiful place to visit. This image was taken in the Knob Lakes area off the Glenn Highway.
Have a great Tuesday, and as always, thanks for all your visits and comments!!!!
