Starting point of Mount Kailash Parikrama

A beautiful view of Mount Kailash reflecting in Manasarovar!

We would not have got to see these views if we had ridden the bus to Qihu!

We walked along the banks of the lake enjoying every moment of it! And we got some of the best views of Manasarovar as we walked along its banks up to Qihu. The 18 km trek was well worth it!

We made a yatra (pilgrimage) to the holy land of Mt. Kailash and Manassarovar Lake in Tibet in September 2007. It is only now that I have begun posting pictures from our journey! So enjoy the yatra on Flickr and if you have been to the Kailash Manassarovar region, do contribute your pictures to the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra group!

This is the first day of the clockwise kora walk or Mt Kailash in Tibet.

Mt Kailash is holy mountain for hinduism. This is picture of Mt Kailash which rounds by pilgrimage to receive ritual power.

The sacred peak of Kinnaur Kailash as seen from Kalpa. This picture is taken after sunset. Hindu pilgrims take the trek journey around the peak and this is known as Kinner Kailash Parikrama.

ADI KAILASH

ADI-KAILASH (6191mts. popularly known as Chotta Kailash) is in many ways replica of the better known Mt. Kailash in Tibet, especially in appearance. Adi-Kailash, however is in Indian Territory close to the Indo-Tibetan border full of nature, peace and serenity. Civilization tired by the incessant roar of urban life, will find here a healing quietude.

Nearby lake called Parvati Tal catches the mesmerizing reflection of the peak.

From Gunji the route branches off to Kalapani, the origin of MahaKali River, and then on to Nabhidhang (3987m, Lipupass is 9kms ahead of this location). At Nabhidhang we can see Aum Parvat which in itself is a miracle of nature, snow lies on the mountain in the shape of a perpetual "Aum" - the primordial sound.

Walks in the villages of Gala, Garbiyang, Budhi, Gunji, Napalchu Navi, Rongkong, Kutti itself is enriching and rare experience of tradition & culture in this remote Himalayan inhabitation. You will come across the snow peaks of Annapurna, (Api Massive), the gushing Maha Kali River, enchanting beauty of Chaudas, Byans and Darma valleys and Bugyal full of Himalayan herbs and wild flowers.

Adi-Kailash trek is able to transfer trekker's physical journey into a spiritual experience, a journey in search of truth.

Important: Inner Line Permit is required to travel in this destination. It can be procured quickly by submission of application at SDM's office. By Kailash Mansarovar Foundation Swami Bikash Giri www.sumeruparvat.com , www.naturalitem.com

KAILASA - This is one of the unfinished painting which i completed today of Mt.Kailash which is sacred for Hindus, Tibetans and jains.

According to Hinduism, Lord Shiva, the destroyer of ignorance and illusion, resides at the summit of a legendary mountain named Kailas, where he sits in a state of perpetual meditation along with his wife Parvati. Like many of the Hindu gods, Shiva is a character of apparent contradictions. He is at once the Lord of Yoga and therefore the ultimate renunciate ascetic, yet he is also the divine master of Tantra.

The Tibetan name for the mountain is Gangs Rin-po-che. Gangs or Kang is the Tibetan word for snow peak analogous to alp or himal, rinpoche is an honorific meaning "precious one" so the combined term can be translated "precious jewel of snows".Tibetan Buddhists call it Kangri Rinpoche; 'Precious Snow Mountain'.
