The wire inserted into the iTrip to move around the antenna. The wire itself did not extend the range when touched to the internal antenna unfortunately.

Using the wire to coil around the antenna inside the iTrip and move it around a bit, I was able to extend the antenna's range by at least 10 or 20 ft.

A test to see if the case could be snapped open this way, however, that would have broken the plastic.
