We were wise, oh so wise,

Not given to lies or deceit.

We juggled secrets at our fingertips,

Wore diamonds at our feet.

We showed you ways to play old airs.

We said we could be friends.

But, when our backs were turned, you got us in the end.

Forget all who hurt you, they don't know you,

Come rest your tired body in my arms.

From the bedroom I have called you,

So come save me from this fire

And I have bad dreams,

Done so many bad things,

So come save me from this fire.

And I will stroll the merry way and jump the hedges first

And I will drink the clear clean water for to quench my thirst

And I shall watch the ferry-boats and they'll get high

On a bluer ocean against tomorrow's sky.

And I will never grow so old again

And I will walk and talk in gardens all wet with rain.

Oh sweet thing, sweet thing

My, my, my, my, my sweet thing

And I shall drive my chariot down your streets and cry

'Hey, it's me, I'm dynamite and I don't know why'

And you shall take me strongly in your arms again

And I will not remember that I even felt the pain.

We shall walk and talk in gardens all misty and wet with rain

And I will never, never, never grow so old again.

Half a mile from the County Fair

And the rain kept pourin' down

Me and Billy standin' there

With a silver half a crown

Hands are full of a fishin' rod

And the tackle on our backs

We just stood there gettin' wet

With our backs against the fence

Oh, the water

Oh, the water

Oh, the water

Hope it don't rain all day

Well, I've been to London and I've been to gay Paree,

I've followed the river and I got to the sea.

I've been down on the bottom of the world full of lies,

I ain't lookin' for nothin' in anyone's eyes.

Sometimes my burden is more than I can bear,

It's not dark yet but it's gettin' there.

Macro Mondays. January 9, 2017 ~ Inspired by a Song.

Happy Macro Monday, my friends!

"7 Days of Shooting" "Week #14 ~ Represent A Song " "Shoot Anything Saturday”

www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KJQNMqVIug

From Wikipedia ~ In 1979, [New York, New York] was recorded by Frank Sinatra, for his album Trilogy: Past Present Future (1980), and has since become closely associated with him. He occasionally performed it live with Minnelli as a duet. Sinatra recorded it a second time in duet with Tony Bennett for his 1993 album Duets.

The first line of the song is ~

Start spreadin' the news, I'm leaving today. I want to be a part of it: New York, New York.

The song concludes with the line ~

If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere, It's up to you, New York, New York.

Minnelli's original recording of the song (also used in the Tony Bennett version in Duets) uses the following closing line ~

If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere, Come on, come through, New York, New York.

Country, I was a soldier for you

I did what you asked me to

It was wrong and you knew.

Country, now I’m just a stranger to you

A number a name it’s true

Throw me away when you’re through.

Home of the brave and the free, the red white and blue

But I wish it was true.

Time for a little song if you’re up for it.

Here’s a short elegy to my Little Ape Truck who is 40 years old today - sung to the tune of ‘Little Deuce Coupe’ by The Beach Boys. Please don’t be shy, sing along and help me celebrate forty years loyal and very unreliable service from my little beauty. Enjoy!!

Little Ape Truck

You don't know what I got

Well I'm not braggin' babe so don't put me down

But I've got the rustiest three wheels in town

When something comes up to me he don't even try

Cause if it had a set of gears man I know she’d get by

She's my little Ape Truck

You don't know what I got

Just a little Ape truck with a flat bed mill

But she'll walk a Honda moped like it's standin' still

In powder blue she’s cooler than your average Ford

She'll do a nifty thirty with the top end floored

She's my little Ape Truck

You don't know what I got

She's got a grindin’ clutch with the two on the floor

And she squeals like a kitten till your ears are raw

And if that ain’t enough to make you flip your lid

There's one more thing, I got the foot pump ready!

And roarin' off the line when the light turns green

Well she blows black clouds o’ smoke out like you never seen

My eyes begin to water and it's hard to steer

When I burn rubber up in both them gears

She's my little Ape Truck

You don't know what I got

(Many thanks to Brian Wilson)

Now that she's back in the atmosphere

With drops of Jupiter in her hair,

She acts like summer and walks like rain

Reminds me that there's time to change,

Since the return from her stay on the moon

She listens like spring and she talks like June,

Cirkus fact:

Ive seen Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead play live over 110x. I started in the late 80's and toured up until jerry's death. My last show was in Pittburgh PA at the three rivers stadium. the night the heavens broke open and gave us the best rain dedicated 2nd set.

Anyway, today i cannot get this song out of my head. Robert Hunter is a brilliant man who wrote many songs these boys played.

I have a book called "box of rain" which is a collection of dead songs written by hunter. in college, it was my bible of sorts.

i dont listen to the dead much anymore but they will always remain a fiber in my make-up.

for those of you who followed them back in the day and have been to shows, just know how much community, love & therapy (for me) was spread. For those who have never been and say its just hippie music, F-U. you just never "got it". it wasnt just amazing jam music... it was an experiance, a culture.

Cities would form in lots where shows were...business, commerce, connections, and celebration took place.

maybe im missing that now? maybe not at all..

there are alot of Flickr traits that remind me and exude some of the same essences that i loved about the GD.

I guess what im trying to say is, i love it here.

I plan to give, support and love here.

I plan to create and grow more here.

Here is where i belong. Here is where i'll stay.

=========================

Let my inspiration flow in token rhyme, suggesting rhythm,

That will not forsake you, till my tale is told and done.

While the firelights aglow, strange shadows from the flames will grow,

Till things weve never seen will seem familiar.

Shadows of a sailor, forming winds both foul and fair all swarm.

Down in carlisle, he loved a lady many years ago.

Here beside him stands a man, a soldier from the looks of him,

Who came through many fights, but lost at love.

While the story teller speaks, a door within the fire creaks;

Suddenly flies open, and a girl is standing there.

Eyes alight, with glowing hair, all that fancy paints as fair,

She takes her fan and throws it, in the lions den.

Which of you to gain me, tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell?

I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance.

The sailor gave at least a try, the soldier being much too wise,

Strategy was his strength, and not disaster.

The sailor, coming out again, the lady fairly leapt at him.

Thats how it stands today. you decide if he was wise.

The story teller makes no choice. soon you will not hear his voice.

His job is to shed light, and not to master.

Since the end is never told, we pay the teller off in gold,

In hopes he will return, but he cannot be bought or sold.

Terrapin station

Inspiration, move me brightly. light the song with sense and color;

Hold away despair, more than this I will not ask.

Faced with mysteries dark and vast, statements just seem vain at last.

Some rise, some fall, some climb, to get to terrapin.

Counting stars by candlelight, all are dim but one is bright;

The spiral light of venus, rising first and shining best,

On, from the northwest corner, of a brand new crescent moon,

While crickets and cicadas sing, a rare and different tune,

Terrapin station.

In the shadow of the moon, terrapin station.

And I know well get there soon, terrapin station.

I cant figure out, terrapin, if its the end or beginning, terrapin,

But the trains put its brakes on, terrapin,

And the whistle is screaming, terrapin.

Terrapin station - at the siding

While you were gone, these faces filled with darkness.

The obvious was hidden. with nothing to believe in,

Sullen wings of fortune beat like rain.

Youre back in terrapin for good or ill again, for good or ill again.

Sing loud for the sunshine,

Pray hard for the rain

And show your love for Lady Nature,

And she will come back again.

The people turned away,

People turned away.

I wish I could be like a bird in the sky,

How sweet it would be if I found out I could fly,

And I'd soar to the sun and look down at the sea,

And I sing 'cause I know how it feels to be free.

"Don't break me, I bruise easily

The source of both your love and misery

I am steady, beating endlessly

While you are dozing, dreaming pretty things

I don't work for free

Please take care of me

This is a message from your heart

Your most devoted body part

Taking blood and making art

This is a message from your heart

Pounding away into the dark

You could thank me for a start

This is a message from your heart"

Now the rooms are all empty down at Frankie's joint,

And the highway she's deserted down to Breaker's Point.

There's a lot of people leaving town now,

Leaving their friends, their homes.

At night they walk that dark and dusty highway all alone.

Well Papa go to bed now it's getting late,

Nothing we can say can change anything now.

Because there's just different people coming down here now

And they see things in different ways,

And soon everything we've known will just be swept away.

I got a job working construction for the Johnstown Company

But lately there ain't been much work on account of the economy

Now all them things that seemed so important

Well Mister they vanished right into the air.

Now I just act like I don't remember, Mary acts like she don't care.

But I remember us riding in my brothers car

Her body tan and wet down at the reservoir

At night on them banks I'd lie awake

And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take

Now those memories come back to haunt me, they haunt me like a curse

Is a dream a lie if it don't come true

Or is it something worse.

That sends me

Down to the river though I know the river is dry

Down to the river, my baby and I

Oh down to the river we ride

And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe

Maybe this year will be better than the last

I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself

To hold on to these moments as they pass

And it's one more day up in the canyon

And it's one more night in Hollywood

It's been so long since I've seen the ocean

I guess I should.

Under a blood red sky

A crowd has gathered in black and white

Arms entwined, the chosen few

The newspapers says, says

Say it's true it's true...

And we can break through

Though torn in two

We can be one.

I've always wanted to do a pic like this. Having lived in metropolises all my life, there's just something about the hustle and bustle of the city that resonate with my soul.

Sky of blackness and sorrow

Sky of love, sky of tears

Sky of glory and sadness

Sky of mercy, sky of fear

Sky of memory and shadow

Your burden fills my arms tonight

Sky of lonely and emptiness

Sky of fullness, sky of blessed life.

I know I let you down,

And Christ, you let me know

Every time

And time again.

Just another afternoon

Get drunk and disappear

So call me what you will

Rain it on down.

What else can you throw at me

I haven't heard before?

And tear me on down.

I am unforgivable.

So why don't you just tell me

What you really think of me?

And scream me on down

I am so forgettable

Yes, I know.

And shoot me on down

Don't you think this isn't killing me?

But it's no more than I deserve.

I don't care what you call me.

Because it won't hurt any more.

All the rusted signs we ignore throughout our lives,

Choosing the shiny ones instead.

I turned my back, now there's no turning back.

No matter how cold the winter, there's a springtime ahead,

I'm thumbing my way back to heaven.

This macro photo where flowers ( much smaller than shown ) just touching the window but looking disappearing, was influenced by the song "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?"

When I first saw the lyrics, I liked it but was not sure what it really meant. However, I did love the idea of cyclical nature, happening series of events. So, I thought to express the idea by photography but quite hard for me. Finally, I took this photo which would symbolize the song.

Composer: Pete Seeger

Lyricists: Pete Seeger and Joe Hickerson: (From Wikipedia)

Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing?

Where have all the flowers gone, long time ago?

Where have all the flowers gone?

Young girls have picked them everyone.

Oh, when will they ever learn?

Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone, long time passing?

Where have all the young girls gone, long time ago?

Where have all the young girls gone?

Gone for husbands everyone.

Oh, when will they ever learn?

Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the husbands gone, long time passing?

Where have all the husbands gone, long time ago?

Where have all the husbands gone?

Gone for soldiers everyone

Oh, when will they ever learn?

Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone, long time passing?

Where have all the soldiers gone, long time ago?

Where have all the soldiers gone?

Gone to graveyards, everyone.

Oh, when will they ever learn?

Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the graveyards gone, long time passing?

Where have all the graveyards gone, long time ago?

Where have all the graveyards gone?

Gone to flowers, everyone.

Oh, when will they ever learn?

Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing?

I really don't know what to say, because now I have been offered a place at college and I have an optionality to start my life, either a photography course or work placement. Also have a flat away from my family to live in which is a huge relief. Its between April and September hopefully if it should go through if I'm accepted for funding get the right funding.

Reaching for something in the distance

So close you can almost taste it

Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten

My eyes are dry my hands are tied

There’s nothing I can say

If you feel the need to go

I won’t stand in your way

Sit and think drown and drink

Sing this sad sad song

You can bring me flowers baby

When I’m dead and gone

Fate has played his hand is cruel

There ain’t nothing I can do

You say you lost your love for me

Me my love for you

Sit and cry say goodbye

Sing this sad sad song

You can bring me flowers baby

When I’m dead and gone

When you’re lying in his arms

Think of me and go

The choice you made ain’t free and clear

It cost me a hell lot more

Sit and think drown and drink

Sing this sad sad song

You can bring me flowers baby

When I’m dead and gone

For this weeks Macro Monday theme I chose Message in a bottle by The Police from their 1979 Reggatta de Blanc album. The bottle is under a inch tall and was placed on a mound of sand.Tin foil was used for the background and was lit by a house bulb covered with a blue wrappers from some xmas sweets. The message in the bottle reads:Good morning to all my Macro Monday friend, hope its a good one and you all have a wonderful week.

Seems I'm not alone in being alone

A hundred billion castaways looking for a home

I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
