DARCY PADILLA | FAMILY LOVE

The nebula Messier 78 is a reflection nebula in the constellation Orion. It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1780 and included by Charles Messier in his catalog of comet-like objects that same year.

M78 is the brightest diffuse reflection nebula of a group of nebulae that include NGC 2064, NGC 2067 and NGC 2071. This group belongs to the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex and is about 1,600 light years distant from Earth. M78 is easily found in small telescopes as a hazy patch and involves two stars of 10th magnitude. These two stars, HD 38563A and HD 38563B, are responsible for making the cloud of dust in M78 visible by reflecting their light.

moonrocksastro.com/index.php/2016/08/20/the-pelican-nebul...

The Pelican Nebula (also known as IC 5070 and IC 5067[1]) is an H II region associated with the North America Nebula in the constellation Cygnus. The gaseous contortions of this emission nebula bear a resemblance to a pelican, giving rise to its name.[1] The Pelican Nebula is located nearby first magnitude star Deneb, and is divided from its more prominent neighbour, the North America Nebula, by a molecular cloud filled with dark dust.

The Pelican is much studied because it has a particularly active mix of star formation and evolving gas clouds. The light from young energetic stars is slowly transforming cold gas to hot and causing an ionization front gradually to advance outward. Particularly dense filaments of cold gas are seen to still remain, and among these are found two jets emitted from the Herbig–Haro object 555.[1] Millions of years from now this nebula might no longer be known as the Pelican, as the balance and placement of stars and gas will leave something that appears completely different.

Playa of Tengradin, Noja, Cantabria, Spain 25th October 2012

I took a very peculiar shot of the beautiful Beach of Tengradin, Noja. It was not long before dawn and that particular light made me feel I was in a different planet, which is why I chose a photoshoped accentuated post with long closed shades and an electric blue that accentuated the "alien" feeling.

Pile-dwelling port in Carrasqueira, Alcàcer do Sal, Portugal, 16th Feb 2013.

A spectacular location to say the least. I was based very far from there but I went back to the pile-dwelling port in Carrasqueira three times to wait for the right day and light. During my first visit, the tide was too low and the port did not show all its charm, the second time the sky was totally cloudless and it did not show an interesting light.

My last visit I did it on the Saturday, just a few hours before I had to make my way back to Italy. It was literally my last chance, there were a lot of us trying to take the right pic, all armed with our reflex and filters, but strange enough, everybody lost interest in the port right after sunset and they all left. I just had a feeling that the distant city lights could give me something more, I patiently waited and I was rewarded with a shot that I absolutely love. This shot cost me a 15 hours car trip but eventually ... The Light.

Porto palafittico di Carrasqueira, Alcàcer do Sal, Portogallo 16/02/2013

IC 1805 Heart nebula

moonrocksastro.com/index.php/astro-blog/

The Heart Nebula, IC 1805, Sh2-190, lies some 7500 light years away from Earth and is located in the Perseus Arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. This is an emission nebula showing glowing gas and darker dust lanes. The nebula is formed by plasma of ionized hydrogen and free electrons.

The very brightest part of this nebula (the knot at the right) is separately classified as NGC 896, because it was the first part of this nebula to be discovered.

The nebula's intense red output and its configuration are driven by the radiation emanating from a small group of stars near the nebula's center. This open cluster of stars known as Melotte 15 contains a few bright stars nearly 50 times the mass of our Sun, and many more dim stars that are only a fraction of our Sun's mass. The cluster used to contain a microquasar that was expelled millions of years ago.

Rhoon Castle at Rhoon is a fortified keep, built in 1432 by the family Van Duyvelant, whose members were then lord of the manor Rhoon. The castle was built on the site where an older castle stood, which was destroyed. By the St. Elizabeth flood of 1421 The castle is located in the current Rhoon North, where the medieval village center is located, including the Village Church and the House Pendrecht.

The church of Agios Philippos is located on the tourist area of Monastiraki, in the district of Vlassarous, opposite the entrance of the archaeological site of the Ancient Agora.

According to tradition, it was here that Apostle taught for two years in Athens and it was here that he died as a martyr.

Architecturally it belongs to the type of three-aisled vaulted basilica with a simple gallery and a steeple and it has been built over an old Christian basilica. The second church, which is not preserved, was the result of radical renovations made in 1866, after the destructions by the army of Kutahi Pasha (1826-1827) during the siege of Athens.

In 1912 it was renamed to “Agios Philippos Vlassarous” when it merged with the nearby church of Panagia Vlassarous. The latter was demolished during the excavations at the ancient Agora in the period 1932-1937. Finally, in 1961 the present day church of Agios Philippos was constructed.

The church’s screen was made in 1849 and came from an older church. At the church of Agios Philippos they keep parts from the holy relics of saints, among them the ones of Apostle Philippos. Furthermore, there are also icons from the demolished church of Panagia Vlassarous.

Porque hubo amor se obró la sucesión

Torres centenarias.

Hoy celebran tus bronces

aquel otro sencillo y agradable tintineo

–maitines de cincel y fonolita–

a cuyo son crecieron tus columnas

en ojivas, en bóvedas, en torres

y en tus más elevados chapiteles.

En torno a tus pináculos y agujas

son ángeles de gloria

las palomas

que hoy olvidan arrullos y nidales

y danzan sin cesar

una coreografía inédita.

¿Cómo no va a saltar también

mi frío corazón

en medio de esta atmósfera de gozo?

¿Cómo no celebrar mis versos
