I live on the airport mesa in beautiful Sedona, Arizona. Every evening, people flock to the airport to watch the sunset. Of course, it's a beautiful place to take pictures of the sun setting behind the gorgeous rock formations, but every once in a while, I like to get a different perspective than the typical tourist view. This shot is facing the runway. If you ever make it here to visit, be sure to head over to the other side of the mesa too.
I haven't been able to get out shooting much because of the cold, and our recent major snowfall, so thought I would post an image from one of my favourite places, that I took last winter.
On a photo expedition with my nephew... I couldn't resist showing him the gazebo!
He took a gorgeous shot of it. Here is my version. I played with tones a lot. It is an HDR, of course, as are most of my shots.
So, it is the gazebo again!
Oh, I wanted to add that it was the wind which gave the grasses the look of being textured, or painted.
Taken on the first day of Spring, but snow lay all around and Cradle Mountain's distinctive, craggy peaks were swathed in rain clouds. This magical mountain, surrounded by smooth glacial lakes, ancient rainforest and distinctive alpine vegetation, is situated at the northern end of the 161,000-hectare (397,840-acre) Cradle Mountain-Lake St.Clair national park, part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

Thanks to Skeletal Mess for the use of his great texture.
This one is dedicated to Manel. Gracias, Manel, for the very beautiful and encouraging words from Spain.
When i climbed up here i was greeted by "the girls" (Bighorn Sheep). Since the weather was stormy and this was taken just before dark....which is around 4:30 PM around here. The pics didn't turn out the way i had hoped.
An ice cloak, or glacial cap, covers this Protected Area of 600,000 hectares. Among the 356 glaciers, the Perito Moreno is the most outstanding one, having a front of 5 km long and a height of over 60 meters above the level of the water.
Known worldwide because of its process of fractures, the front of the glacier closes the running of the waters of Brazo Rico when it approaches the coast. This produces a kind of pond where the water goes up 20 meters over the level, creating the filtration that ends up in the fracture; the last time was in March 2004.
But show is never-ending. You can watch the detachment of ice blocks of different sizes from a short distance, hear the roaring they produce, and then watch them turned into wonderful floating icebergs.

This is a timeless place.
I always forget when I did arrive
I never know what I’ve been doing
And I repeatedly do not find the way out…
This is a place where I feel unstressed
Relaxed and free
Agile and creative
This is a place like home… to me

a year in pictures 06.12.09 (157/365):
After a few days of the post trip blahs were I didn’t really feel like putting much effort into leaving the house to shoot, I started to miss getting out in my element.
I explore. It’s what I like to do. The studio stuff (like i have a studio) is fun as well, but man I really gotta be out somewhere just a bit different to really hit my stride. Crawling around in the dark, tripping over junk, one eye on the lookout for “visitors” is where I kinda feel comfortable…or at least alive and entertained.
So yep, I’m back y’all. Hugs please. And since I’m so damn happy today, here’s my happy jam. Please trying to picture me slow rollin' the streets waving to everyone while listening to this, haha.
day 157...back in the saddle.
Here Again, you have The Laguna de Los Tres from a higher point of view.
It is a merge of 8 pictures.
And before more people ask, yes I used a tripod. :P ... and before you ask 'how the hell you transport a tripod whilst hiking?' ... the answer is: That's me :)

Fitz Roy Mountain (Cerro Fitz Roy) is located in Parque National Los Glaciares that covers an area of 6,000.000 sq km of mountains, glaciers and lakes in the Santa Cruz Province in the south of Argentina.
The park is situated in the part of the land known as Patagonia. Most of the park is inaccessible for visitors, except for 2 areas - the Fitz Roy area near the twon of Chalten, and the Perito Moreno Glacier which is close to El Calafate.
The national park was declared in 1981 as a world heritage site by UNESCO.
Fitz Roy Trek is a walk into the Los Glaciares reserve. The Trek passes through huge granite masifs, blue glaciers and magical lakes. The most notable mountains in the area are the Fitz Roy Mountain - a huge granite masif, at 3405 meters above sea level and the Cerro Torre Mountain, at 3102 meters above sea level.

Blue ice occurs when snow falls on a glacier, is compressed, and becomes part of a glacier. During its travels, all of the air bubbles that are trapped in the ice are squeezed out, and the size of the ice crystals increases, making it clear. The ice is blue for the same reason water is blue. Namely, it is a result of an overtone of a OH molecular stretch in the water which absorbs light at the red end of the visible spectrum.
The icebergs in the Jökulsárlón, Iceland, come from the glacier Breiðamerkurjökull. They break and melt and are floating via the lake to the sea. The white, light blue and through grit and volcanic matter grey and black colored icebergshave the most running out forms. They are drifted along hit by the stream or the wind till they hit the bottom of the lake. Only a small part of the iceberg is above the water. Beautiful scenes of the James Bond- film: 'A view to a kill' and 'Die another day' have been taken up here.
