The absolute depths of Winter in Iceland.

This normally pounding was waterfall at Kirkjufell now reduced to a mere 'shower' encased within what appears to be a naturally formed Ice Cave or Grotto, there were actually 2 of these that has formed around the 2 main spouts of the falls, (the bigger panoramic image can been further back in my stream here - www.flickr.com/photos/pete37038/49487921378/in/dateposted/ ). This is from a different perpective and just concentrating on the detail in one of the 'archways'

Whilst some people would no doubt see this archway as a dream 'selfie location' for Instagram, this was as close as it was safe to go, and it was shot at 190mm from a safe position on the banking, there was literally no way of telling how thick the ice was underneath the snowfall, and I had absolutely no intention of findiing out !

Sculptures made of ice. On Dachstein, there is a cave made in snow and ice, where you can find ice scultptures like full size throne (you can sit on it :)), animals, large crystals etc. Everything is nicely iluminated with colorful light.

Frosty memories from past summer days. The plan for this day was to visit the Hoher Dachstein and the glacier. We concurred the mountain on the Cable Car. When got up to the station at nearly 3000 m, everything around was covered in thick clouds with virtually zero visibility and slim chances to be cleared in the afternoon. So, before returning back, we paid the visit to one of the attraction at the top, Eispalast, a mystical world of ice inside the Dachstein glacier. You reach the entrance to the palace via a bridge over the void, the experience not for people with vertigo, but not on that day, you barely can see the entrance, never mind what is down below your feet in such thick fog. It was as freezing inside as it was cold outside, but at least you can see through. The display was indeed spectacular with beautiful colourful illumination. Here are few coldest memories of the last hot summer. “Hopsi” the rabbit is the mascot of Planai-Hoshwurzen-Bahnen and of the 1982 and 2013 Ski World Championships in Schladming. In summer visitors can meet him in Hopsiland on the summit of the Planai.

A visit to the ice hotel (Hotel du Glace) in Quebec is like visiting the real life ice palace from Disney's Frozen!

The Ice Palace

A capture from a photography workshop into one of my favorite ice caves in Iceland this winter, I photographed this cave first in february 2012 and at that time there was no trace of anybody being in there before me. I had to crawl in about 30 meters in a narrow hole to get in there. This winter the opening of the cave was much larger, and easier to access with clients on photography workshops. Next winter I'll guide few photography workshops in Iceland to ice caves, glaciers and winter scenery, starting in November 2014 to March 2015. The dates for two workshops are already set for 2015 and are. February 10 - 18th, and March 10 - 18th. Feel free to send your request for the itinerary and booking your spot at skarpi@skarpi.is

Not content to merely do up their windows in elaborate holiday displays, Saks Fifth Avenue likes to transform their entire building with elaborate light shows which are always big hits with both tourists and locals alike.

Saks really outdid themselves this year with their Holiday Palace show. This enchanting light show involves more than 225,000 individual points of controlled light. It took more than 10,000 hours to produce, and more than 250 individuals internationally and domestically helped create it, according to a news release.

You can stop by The Hague City Hall for contact with the municipality or just to grab a cup of coffee and people watch. The white building (nicknamed the ‘Ice Palace’) by American architect Richard Meier has the largest atrium in the Netherlands.
