"Chapter One. He adored New York City. He idolized it all out of proportion."
--Woody Allen, Manhattan
The Mid-Hudson Bridge runs about 3/5 mile across the Hudson from Poughkeepsie to Highland. Officially named the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge it is one of the two bridges I travel most often (the other is the, if I may continue to be official, Hamilton Fish Newburgh-Beacon Bridge).
It's a handsome bridge and somewhat reminiscent of the Bear Mountain Bridge.
This shot was taken a few minutes after sunset from Kaal Rock Park in Poughkeepsie, the unmistakable scent of marijuana wafting through the air.

It was so beautiful, I had to pull the car over to the side of the road and snap a few pictures. After, I could see in my rearview mirror that it just kept getting better and better, but I couldn't find another safe place to stop. Alas.

Photo taken from Manhattan Island, near where I am staying. Overlooking Hudson river and New Jersey. Long exposure. I am amazed by how the cloud moved so much in just 30 secs.
Despite discouragements from a few New Yorkers, I am going to try to go to Times Square and watch the ball drop tonight. I'm hoping I will get out of there alive and perhaps some good photos.
