Esse quam videri is a Latin phrase meaning "To be, rather than to seem (to be)". And it was the credo by which the Granite Mountain Hotshots lived. As should we. This photo was taken of a microburst that appeared almost out of nowhere, directly over Granite Mountain, the namesake mountain after which our local wildland firefighting crew was named, and all but 1 of whom we lost to a tragic wildfire just a mere year ago.
Been buying little cheap props whilst shopping and thought it was about time I used some.
I bought these shot glasses with built in colour from Asda for £2.
I bought a sheet of glass from alocal glaziers for £8 as my black acrylic sheet is getting very scratched and acrylic can be expensive.
I placed the glass sheet on top of my roll of black poster paper then placed the glasses in a row.
I squirted a line of lighter fluid behind the glasses and set up one flashgun my Yongnuo 560 III just above the glasses but slightly in front.
The flash had no diffusion and was set to 1/64 power and zoomed into 105mm.
My Nikon D7100 was set up on my tripod with a Yongnuo RF602 trigger to activate the flashgun.
I lit the lighter fluid with a match, turned off the room lights then took the picture.
The westbound Chicago to Denver Z-Train pretty much has a straight shot into Denver as there's nothing coming east out of Denver as they pass the grain elevator at Roggen.
For Macro Mondays theme 'Found in the Kitchen'.
A small section (within the 3 inch rule) of a glowing ceramic hob ring, plus reflection from a saucepan sitting on it.
Southern Pacific AC4400CWs No. 295 and 139 pull an 84 car Roper to Denver Forwarder east into Spanish Fork Canyon near Gomex, Utah on Aug. 27, 1995.
This looks like an amateur attempt to do a pinup-type pose. Found in a group of family photos at an antique show recently. I am not sure if the portrait on the bookcase behind her is the same woman, but at first glance this seems to be the case. Perhaps she is posing for a boyfriend at his apartment/home. Found in Ohio.

A couple of railfans catch Rio Grande's Railblazer train No. 103 meeting Amtrak's California Zephyr train No. 6 at Narrows in Spanish Fork Canyon on March 4, 1989. Amtrak was running on time and the Railblazer was running late. It was a topsy turvy kind of a day.
I almost left me tooth there, as I was shooting I was almost ran over by a trolley bus. Discman+photographing doesn't enhance the keenness of senses... The things I'll do for a mediocre shot...

Day 263 - Golf ball set on fire just for some fun. If anyone is to try this please be sensible! Obviously fire is dangerous and spraying deodorant on to a naked flame is even more so dangerous! I suggest water on hand just in case! Even though it goes out pretty quick accidents can happen!

Street candid taken on Buchanan Street in Glasgow, Scotland, where there was some camera tuition going on inside a thick cloud of smoke.
