Renewed road bridge near Maynards Green, carrying West Street Lane over the formation. Just to the south of this bridge, we found what appeared to be the concrete base of a colour light signal (Horam down distant). After looking at a few videos, there is a very brief glimpse of this signal at exactly 6:00 in this fantastic piece of footage and it does indeed appear to be a colour light: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRRJFSxglUQ I never thought electric colour light signalling was in use on this route, however it would appear as though this was the case.

A card showing Newquay from the air published by Airviews Ltd. of Manchester Airport.

The card was posted on Thursday the 9th. September 1971 to an address in Horam Sussex.

So what else happened on the day the card was posted? Well, at the Attica Correctional Facility in New York State, nearly half the prison's total of 2,200 inmates took part in a riot that involved the taking of hostages.

The riot was based in part upon prisoners' demands for better living conditions, but was led in large part by a small band of political revolutionaries. Under the order of the then state Governor Nelson Rockefeller, state police moved in and took back control of the prison. When the uprising was over, at least 39 people were dead, including ten correction officers and civilian employees.
