This mill, painted by Claude Monet, was replaced from Rijnsburg to Voorhout in 1999.
The mill was build in 1783.

Ten and 42 were cleaning out the basement. It's the kind of job they both enjoy. Forty-two likes getting things in order; 10 loves poking through and thinking up new uses for all the stuff 42 wants to throw away. Like this hoopy thing, which is (sadly) not a hula hoop. It's the slightly bent top support from our old over-bed mosquito net. But as soon as 10 picked it up, she became quite determined to do this photo.
It was not easy. Forty-two went along with it, but she was getting some fed up with all of 10's demands.
It ended badly.
But that will be tomorrow's photo.
Tonight my little buddy and I went down to West Cliff for a walk and of course for me to take pics.
Much to our delight, we found that this woman brings a boom box with excellent tunes and a ton of hula hoops for everyone to use. There were so many people groovin' to the music and hooping. It was great fun. I felt lucky to be a part of it....it was such a cool atmosphere and everyone was soo nice.

The sun is gone now until spring and I am faced with the hard reality that we live in a rainforest. Gone too are the blue skies and strong shadows that make painting so enjoyable. Today though I saw new opportunities in the flat light and wet surfaces. This basketball court at the local school provided a beautiful abstract reflection of our final fall colour; its even surface creating interesting pockets of variation. The basketball hoops offer a sense of space which otherwise would have been difficult to portray. By next weekend the reds, yellows and oranges will be gone and I will have to look even harder.

Well this is my first attempt at star trails.
Light poluttion makes it tougher to get anything worthwhile. In anycase, I learned a lot, so I am pleased with the results. I learned things I could do better and things that just require a more rural environment.

First night in De Hoop was clear as a bell. Was about to go to bed & noticed the milky way just above the cottages & couldn't miss the opportunity.

The newly-built greenhouse, or hoop house, will be maintained completely by students in the Environmental Studies program. They will grow various crops throughout the semester.
