Superb citadel whose foundations lie in the sea, the castle of Collioure was built on the remains of Roman buildings, transformed subsequently to the Visigothic period and cited for the first time in 673.

But it is the initiative of the kings of Majorca, the castle as we know it today was built. It was intended as a summer residence for the royal court. The construction of the building was made at the same time as the Palace of the Kings of Majorca, Perpignan, between 1242 and 1280.

Cornerstone of the defensive, he was raised a Roman construction site. Essentially built by the Counts of Roussillon and the kings of Aragon between 1276 and 1344, it hosted the court of the Kings of Majorca. The fortress was later occupied by the Spaniards until 1642, when she will fall into the hands of the French. Vauban will then raise the outer wall and shave the glaze (current car). In 1922, the historic national monument will be completely renovated and will be occupied by the French army until 1945. In 1951, it will be sold to the General Council of Pyrénées Orientales

It kinda looks like there is a myserious face in the rocks next to the waterfall, which adds magic to the photo. Austria has so many magical spots.

With Love - Maria

The nearby fires obscured the view and created a haze most of the afternoon at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. Yet that same smoke pollution made for some spectacular orange sunset colors. This is a 5-shot hdr image. I used HDR to get more detail in both the lightest and the darkest areas of the photo. Getting detail is especially difficult for low-light shots.

It is a real joy to be able to use my eyes, my camera, and my developing skills to allow you my friends to be able to share in a special moment like this one. Photography has a wonderful ability to transport us into the time, place, and experience of another human being.

Truly a miracle.

The sunrise is fading as night drops over Surfer's Paradise Australia. This view shot from 20 stories up is titled "Two sides of Paradise", and was shot on my Nikon D800. There are many water inlets like the one seen on the left of this image and the houses have personal river access and can moore their yachts right out the front of their property. Also pictured is the Gold Coast Freeway flowing in and out of the Surfers Paradise CBD.

Copper Canyon, Texas, USA.

This multi-exposure image was created by combining three exposures with Photomatix software. The resulting image is called an HDR image - for "high dynamic range" - because it captures a wider range of the actual colors and light than a standard one image exposure. This relatively new technique begins to replicate what a human eye actually "sees" when it views a scene.

This is looking down towards Akihabara, Tokyo Japan, from Kabukicho the red light district. This was taken at around 10pm at night and you can see how alive the city still is. Akihabara is well known for its electronic stores and they're everywhere in this particular area of Tokyo. I loved this section near Kabukicho so I stood out in the middle of the crossing and waited for a good scene to develop. There were also heaps of small neon alleyways to explore resembling that of a neon maze from the future! :-) This is one of the main arteries of Tokyo and it always seemed to be busy & flowing.

The Story

We found this huge rock (notice the trees at its base to appreciate its size) in the Joshua Tree National Park.

The skies above were amazing... just look at those clouds.

There were lizards everywhere and probably snakes though we didnt see any of these. The park was huge compared to the UK National Parks.

What an amazing country .... a photographers dream come true, albeit a little hot !!!!!!

The Shot

3 exposure shot (-1,0,+1) from using my D200 and a Nikon 12-24mm lens handheld.

Opened in Photomatix with detail enhancer set to default.

Then modified using Topaz Adjust , to increase colour and sharpness.

Saturation then boosted and areas of noise reduced.

The sky was darkened and the noise reduced with Noiseware .

Sensor dust spots and blemishes removed and frame and title added.

Taken from overlook #3 on the Virginia side of the Potomac River. This is a 3 shot HDR merged to a 32bit tiff with the HDRSoft Lightroom plugin and then tonemapped in Lightroom 4.3. Thanks so much to all who viewed, faved and commented on my previous photo!

An overcast dreary day still has an appeal to my eye....the stark beauty of nature at rest seems to come through on this image.

A High Dynamic Range (HDR) image using three exposed frames set at different shutter speeds (at the same constant aperture) and shot in rapid fire sequence.... and then blended with Photomatix software.

I think this is MUCH better if viewed at the larger sizes. The reason the horizon is tilted is because I was using a rickety old fence as my makeshift "tripod".....

I have continued to experiment with creating blended HDR images using one RAW file. I take a handheld shot with my Nikon D80 and then using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom I create three files - one overexposed (+1.0), one underexposed (-1.0) and one correctly exposed (0.0).

I then blend those three files together with Photomatix software to create a high dynamic range image that more closely resembles this magnificent nature moment when it is viewed in person. The three exposures allow for more nuances of color and light.....

3rd Ed: The Photographer, the Kombi and the Super Moon

I was not happy with the earlier editions. So, I made more changes.

I hope this time, it is the final color edition.

The fourth is the black and white which is by far, my favorite edition.

Get to know me better by ordering my HDR UNLEASHED book at www.facebook.com/hdrunleashed. You will learn how I do my stuff.

A note on the processing. Some friends were asking if this is a composite. Yes, it is. It's made up of the super moon, the Kombi, the photographer, the blue sky with the stars, the hill with trees and L.A. downtown and the suburbs.

The hill was shot at daytime. So, just made it dark to look like it was night time.

Jenn and I had a wonderful picnic in this spot. There were big patches of grass, benches to enjoy the view, and tons of locals just hanging out enjoying the summer weather. There was even a workout class going on that just looked brutal. The Aussies are in shape that is fore sure!

How this shot was made:

Canon 5D mkII, 16-35mm f2.8L II

16mm F8, ISO640, at 6sec (Base Exposure)

5 Bracketed exposures (-2,-1,0,+1,+2) taken on location. Exported 5 exposures to HDRsoft's 32bit tiff plugin to combine into 32bit floating point tiff. Lightroom adjustments on the 32bit tiff to get it as close to final as I could.

Digital Blending:

Brought into Photoshop for some Digital Blending to fix several issues. First the sky and water were too dark and needed some work. Second the ferry dock and bridge piller on the upper right were too bright and blown out. Third the city and opera house could use a little more contrast and some of the clarity had been lost! Also, overall the photo was still a little soft and needed a punch on sharpening and contrast.

Used -2 exposure to fix the blown out areas of the ferry station and bridge piller. Used a curves adjustment with a layer mask to add contrast to the city, opera house, and little bit in the right of the photo. Added a l"highpass" filter layer set to "overlay" to add a little more pop of sharpening and contrast to the photo, but painted out the sharpening of the sky, and water using a layer mask. Used another curves layer to brighten up the water a bit more.

Back into lightroom for final adjustments. Increased exposure by .5 and adjusted white balance adding a touch more blue to the photo to finish it off.

Final HDR image with Sony A7r for 2013 is of Fireworks!!! I thought I'd go out with a bang! (sorry for the bad pun). This location for fireworks is incredible! Captured during the snowstorm on 2/13/14.

This is the QVB in Sydney, Australia. I shot this from the middle level to get the cool perspective and also used a wide angle lens to capture as much of the building as I could :-) I had set my camera, Nikon D800, up on my tripod to get this photograph but the security guards came over and politely asked me to pack it all up, as apparently tripods are a security risk. I attempted to argue that I would be quick and just take a couple of shots but these guys were the stubborn types! I guess they get this all day though so, so I packed up my gear and had to attempt taking my bracketed images handheld. I ended up stopping it down, increasing the ISO and only taking a 3 bracket exposure instead of my normal 5 or 7. I have also done a different edit to my normal HDR workflow and did a Digital blend.

You've gotta see it LARGE on black!

Captured with a Canon EOS 30D and a Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens.

Location: Tanner Bridge Road, Jefferson City, Missouri

This was a planned HDR scene I captured about a year ago. I've been spending a lot of time with Photoshop CS4 and ACR 5 lately and thought about re-working this piece and I'm glad I did. I have a tutorial about how I created the original HDR image here; however, after using my new process, I need to update the steps.

In short, I used to simply load my Canon 30D RAW files directly into Photomatix, tone map, then save as 16bit tiff. Then load the 16bit tiff into Photoshop to do further enhancing such as noise removal.

Now I process each RAW in ACR 5, apply Noiseware Pro NR and save each frame as a 16bit tiff, then I open each tiff with Photomatix, merge, tone map, save again as 16bit tiff, open in Photoshop, apply default Noiseware Pro NR, USM (radius 1.1, amt: 40%), then save as 8bit jpg, which is what you see above. This rendition is far better than my first version (much cleaner, sharper, and the tonal depth is better too).

Developed five raw images into an HDR image.

HDR treatment made with HDRSoft Lr6 Plugin.

I love how offbeat and branded this is. So many wooden signs... and they're all advertising the same thing. Stanley Oasis - "8 & 3/4th wonder of the world", "Home of the Original Radiator Springs", "Mysterious and Miraculous World Famous" - This is it!

I want to share something with all of you fellow HDR enthusiasts. If you are using Nik Software or Photomatix, you have good software - I used to use both - but not the best. What really makes great photos is the HDRsoft Merge to 32-bit HDR Plugin for lightroom. You get an unparalleled level of detail and quality. You also get an opportunity to REALLY tweak an image the way you want to - the controls are a lot clearer in Lightroom than the other two softwares (because you use them for EVERYTHING - you just get more range). And finally, the biggest draw is that it's only $30 - cheaper than a decent lens filter! I really recommend it for anyone looking for better HDR software!

This is a -2/0/+2 HDR Merge, edited for color and clarity in Photoshop along with Nik Color Efex Pro filters.

A famous Landmark in HDR then converted into a black and white. I took this shot just after sunset so that there was ample light to bring out the surrounding scenery and not just light from man made sources which can often make HDR muggy.

Shot with Nikon D800 + Nikkor 14-24mm @ 16mm. A 5 series HDR bracket converted into toned black and white. Also lots of small adjustments made throughout the image to bring balance to it.

I revisited this HDR image sequence to see if I had learned anything since I first started experimenting with HDR imagery. I used Photo Shop CS3 for all the work starting with HDR merge and basic tone mapping using the local adaptation option. Afterward, I used a variety of adjustments layers including exposure, levels and photo filter. It looks a bit better than the one I processed in 2009. However, photomatix HDR software does a better job of tone mapping.

The kind & generous Ron from hdrsoft have invited me to become a partner & affiliate of their software - Photomatix Pro. I guess with a photostream as awesome as mine, its hard not to be impressed by anyone lol! :P Seriously i'm only jokin'!! Really a big thanks for the offer Ron! :))

Let's go straight to the point. I have a Photomatix code for you hdr fanatics out there ! If you have been thinking of buying yourself a copy of Photomatix Pro all along...this might just be the right time to do so! :P (haha! Just kiddin' I'm no salesman here.. guess I watch too many TV commercials :P) I know most of my flickrs friends here are already using photomatix.. that is just too bad too sad :P This is especially for those hdr lovers out there who have been (quietly) following my photostream & wish to kick off this new found interest ;)

Here's the important part!

====================

Now you can get a fifteen percent off any photomatix software (both Windows & Mac) just by entering -> “A R T I E N G 1 5” (no spacing between letters :)) in the coupon code box of the Photomatix purchase website. With that money u can save, you can also treat yourself to another awesome dinner & tell yourself how good life is! haha! Btw this code is valid from 06 August 2009 to 06 August 2013 so lots of time to think about it :)

Of coz..before you decide to part with your hard-earned cash (like i always do :P), you should always download a free trial version of Photomatix from w w w . h d r s o f t . c o m to play around & see if you like it. Beware tho.. it can be addictive! :P

Last but not least, TGIF!!!!! Its party time! Hope everyone has a wonderful end to the week & a lovely weekend!
