The Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum is an outdoor museum that offers information, specimens of skill and experiences in an original pre-industrial environment. Visitors will step 200 years back in time at the museum.

The area serves as the City's handicrafts history outdoor museum. Over 30 workshops from different fields of craftmanship display the City's handicrafts history and craftspersons' homes. Luostarinmäki is unique due to its old buildings and its workshops that have been furnished by handicrafts masters of different fields of craftsmanship. Luostarinmäki is the "Old City" of Turku since it is the only unified part of the City that survived the Big Fire of 1827. The oldest houses are from 17th-century.

During the summer season, the museum's workshops have craftspeople working there every day. The museum's shops, postal office and cafeteria serve customers round the year. The highlight of the year are the Handicrafts Days in August. During the days, masters of different professions, i.e. Golden Apple Guild masters and apprentices get together and their products are sold in the museum's shops.

The Handicrafts Museum is an internationally renowned tourism attraction. In 1984, the museum was awarded the "Golden Apple" prize by FIJET, the tourism industry writers and reporters association.

My Getty Images...My Interesting Pics..

Zagreb, Dolac Market

This is dedicated to Urban our admired and accomplished street photographer.

I decided to go ahead and copy his technique.

I used analogue camera instead of a digital, allready conceiding a huge handicap.

But to offset that small hurdle I pre-loaded (wisely) my Kiev with film HP-5 no less.

Where he takes lightning fast shots that last even before his subjects realize they are being photographed (wether they like it or not) typically 1 / 500 th sec. I asked permission politely, composed and then took my time moving around the focusing barrel (conceiding another very slight advantage) and then about 43 seconds later I had my shot when I had lulled my subject into a sort of trance.

I am very proud of my first result of "Urbanesque" photos and so should he....
