George "Buddy" Guy (born July 30, 1936 in Lettsworth, Louisiana,) is a five-time Grammy Award-winning American blues and rock guitarist and singer. Known as an inspiration to Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and other 1960s blues and rock legends, Guy is considered an important exponent of Chicago blues.
Eric Clapton said "Buddy Guy was to me what Elvis was for others." and "Buddy Guy is by far and without a doubt the best guitar player alive"
Jimi Hendrix once said that “Heaven is lying at Buddy Guy’s feet while listening to him play guitar.”
Stevie Ray Vaughan once declared that Buddy Guy "plays from a place that I've never heard anyone play."
Jimmy Page said “Buddy Guy is an absolute monster”
Bill Wyman said “Guitar Legends do not come any better than Buddy Guy."

This is my interpretation of a photo (with permission) by a most talented friend Guy (http://www.flickr.com/photos/10422334@N08/) of a Canadian morning sunrise -- THANk YOU, Guy, once more!
This morning's sun has just broken the treeline, and she's a welcome sight! It's been warmer lately, though we've snow predicted for the middle of next week.
Got some chores done yesterday and that feels great. We went to dinner last night - a fine French restaurant - Oh yes, overindulged indeed --! Followed by a family bluegrass band .... It seems like 19 forevers since C and I spent an evening out ... and it was so good to do something so simple together.
Today, a bit of rest, a bit of work (I have a major training session to conduct next week) and preparations for classes.
But the sun is shining -- and the light is immensely cheering!

this is rod amis. he shouldn't be on the street. this guy has seven books to his name, and he is an intelligent and well-spoken guy. until his website went dark some months ago, he had the longest running blog on the internet. he knows he shouldn't be panhandling at union station, but now it's like his job.
the problem is that he has a brain disorder which causes him to forget things- a lot of things. in fact, after talking with him for 45 minutes, he seemingly didn't remember me or lauren 15 minutes later.
rod said he can't keep living this way. he has the potential to get an apartment in the coming weeks, but i wonder if that will matter. he says he's asked his friend to remember guy fawkes day- november 5th. rod says this day he will commit suicide off of one of the many buildings or bridges in the dc area.
but he also said he has another story to tell. the story of the hundreds, thousands of homeless people on the streets, his interactions, and their stories. he said that he doesn't have a computer anymore, but i told him to use gmail in the library to write it. hopefully, the next time i see him he will be doing that.
***** UPDATE 10/18/09 From Chuck, a person who recently met Rod:
He seemed in good spirits, he didn't ask for anything, he
only wanted to talk. He wanted to tell me just one thing,
which was where to find some of his works on the Internet,
primarily at Andover Press. He told me a little bit about
his writing and his illness. I told him a little bit about
myself. We talked, as I said, about technology and modern
culture. We shook hands, he wished me luck, I told him to
keep warm and dry, and I headed for my train.

***** UPDATE 12/18/09 From Lori, a friend of Rod's:
I appreciate your help. I actually missed your message but I did find
him. We talked and hung out for a while. I brought him to my house and
we had a great time just shooting the breeze and he slept here but
then in the morning he wanted to go back... He'd forgotten he'd said
he'd spend some time before the holidays we me. I didn't really know
what to do but I was just happy I got to see him and he got to sleep
in my warm home for a night. I forgot how stubborn he can be! Anyway,
if you see him say hello. Take good care of him. He really is an
amazing guy.

Guy Arab IV UFJ 292 with bodywork by Massey was new to Exeter Corporation and later ran for an independent operator in County Durham.
A nice touch is the Indian warrior head on top of the radiator, which was a feature of buses built by Guy in the nineteen fifties.
Guy Fawkes was made famous by his failed attempt to assassinate King James I. He was caught guarding a cache of gunpowder underneath the British Parliament's House of Lords and was interrogated until he gave up the rest of his conspirators and then was sentenced to death.
Today he is remembered on November 5th in Britain and mask named after him has appeared in the Movie/Graphic Novel named V for Vendetta.
Today, the internet group Anonymous also uses Guy Fawkes masks on their emblems.

I'm not the kind of guy to really "argue" my political views or spread political hatred of sorts but personally i have a few bones to pick with our current president. (Realize this is MY opinion and not so much open for discussing in the comments) Barack Obama, is NOT an American no matter what people say, he was not legitimately born in the United States of America. How he got the money to go to Columbia college and Harvard and get such well rounded education with such poor parents is beyond me. He has no credentials to even be President in the first place, the only "experience" he has is being a community organizer, which to be honest, isn't jackshit when you want to be the Commander in Chief. His last trip to work on foreign policies (Which ALL Presidents do in their terms) FAILED miserably, none of the countries he visited wanted anything to do with his policies. His trip also cost the American tax payers (you and me) $200 million dollars A DAY!!!! ITS ABSURD!!! I believe Barack Obama is a fraud and a failure as a President. The American public wanted "change" he brought it alright..the worse change we will be feeling for years to come. THANKS >_<

Puritans delivered sermons regarding the perceived dangers of popery, while during increasingly raucous celebrations common folk burnt effigies of popular hate-figures,
Settlers exported Guy Fawkes Night to overseas colonies, including some in North America, where it was known as Pope Day. Those festivities died out with the onset of the American Revolution. Claims that Guy Fawkes Night was a Protestant replacement for older customs like Samhain are disputed, although another old celebration, Halloween, has lately increased in popularity, and according to some writers, may threaten the continued observance of 5 November.

THANK YOU, Guy! for allowing me to paint from this wonderous image (http://www.flickr.com/photos/10422334@N08/)! The scan this morning doesn't show the subtle golden tones evident in the real painting --- but I so enjoyed the contrasts of gold, blue, lavender and purple -- thank you again, Guy, for the inspiration!
We're in for another 100F day and by now, we - people and landscapes - are collectively wilting ..... I watch the humidity condense on my skylight windows and wish for the relief of rain - but there is little to be had. I'm thinking of resorting to painting snow to try to cool off! LOL
Despite all this heat, those grape tomatoes are STILL producing like mad. I picked another quart yesterday - and the constant hum of my dehydrator is the music hit of the summer ....

739 was the penultimate of a batch of ten similar buses delivered to Edinburgh Corporation in 1948 (Guy actually commenced building the Arab chassis in 1933), The small fleet group was numbered and renumbered a few times and were used initially on routes with low bridges where double deckers couldn't travel along. They were withdrawn from normal service in 1961 with 739 and 740 (renumbered 839 & 840) being used as training vehicles until 1970.
A regular visitor at bus rallies up and down the country it's always good to see 739 and she's in great condition. Lothian's new fleet of Gemini's arriving in Edinburgh during 2011 have rather appealing chocolate interiors and I wonder perhaps if the idea came from 739, with a similar colour saloon?
