Vasquez Rocks in the Sierra Pelona Mountains in Agua Dulce, California. In 1874 Tiburcio Vasquez, one of California’s most notorious bandits, used these rocks to elude law enforcement and ever since his name has been associated with this geologic feature. Since 1928, nearly two hundred film and television productions have been shot at Vasquez Rocks, including Star Trek, Blazing Saddles, The Big Bang Theory and Gunsmoke.

...or maybe La Mer is at the Long Branch Saloon...haha, wasn't that the name of the saloon in Gunsmoke? Oh, dear! La Mer IS Miss Kitty!

Seems like only yesterday sometimes, doesn't it? And yes, I was the apple of everyone's eyes. All kids should have such support and love.

As for mug shot, well I always said, should I get pinched by the Coppers and sent to the Hoosegow, the Pokey, the Slammer, I was gonna smile. That look got me out of a whole lot of trouble. I mean right up to this day :-))))))

Called mainly by Karen, Vintage Findings after putzing around with ideas that didn't work right away and got shelved for later. www.flickr.com/photos/vintagefindings/8517343018/in/conta... awwww, she so cute. Still is.

Looking at the photos I have from this time, family, houses, furniture, clothes, food, it made me think of the TV shows that defined us and marked us in so many ways.

I don't like revisionist history - these are the shows I am told I watched and loved. They defined America in the years right after the War. I have no issue with how they presented our idealized selves.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=txcRQedoEyY - Davy Crockett - I had the Coonskin hat and the Tennesse/Kentucky long rifle. In 2012 I even shot a black powder long rifle. That was fun.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AZK2-Tfc84 - I Love lucy - what else is there to say except, "Vitameatavegamin"

www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcYsO890YJY Roy Rodges Show, Happy Trails to You. Of course I sang along to this. Of course I wanted a girl like Dale Evans

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9A4W7RLXak - Alfred Hitchcock, Yes, I'd come a running when I heard this music. We all imitated him too; stick out our bellies and out lower lips.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hj-qhIGTXdU - Dragnet. I still do this voice and delivery. (as well as the voice over open stle of another cop show: Law and Order).

www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOgk-w2fx3s Superman? Of course! And I wore this outfit every Halloween for who knows how long. I have me in my Superman outfit on some 8mm Kodachrome films by my dad.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tlafm4lxC4 - Liberace. We didn't know. Nobody knew. Yes, He was a sensitive man, with wonderful style and a silken voice, and the moms loved him. I watched his show. I'm okay...I didn't get the "gay" from him.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7cF583A4Qw&playnext=1&li... - Gunsmoke, I watched every Saturday in summer. I was in love with Ms Kitty.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSFSkiq1FXE - The Honeymooners - Bang, Zoom, to the Moon, Alice! (This would be spouse abuse today. You'd never see it in a comedy. Now the most consistent abuse of women is found on the Lifetime Channel. Go figure.)

Am I different now? Hell Yes. But, not altogether surprisingly, in some ways, no. Is the U.S. different? Hell YES? But, in some ways, no. :-)

The townsite of Paria, in the Grand Staircase of the Escalante, was best known for the TV shows (Gunsmoke) and movies (Sergeants 3, The Outlaw Josey Wales) but today many people come to see the remarkable cliffs that encircle the town.

The current historic town site of Paria, initially Pahrea but changed to Paria following John Wesley Powell’s misspelling, was founded on the bank of the Paria River in 1870. It grew until it supported 47 families in 1883, when 5 consecutive years of flooding drove most people out.

Today, the town is remembered as a site where many westerns were filmed. One of the earliest was the Rat Pack film “Sergeants 3” in 1962, but others were Mackenna’s Gold,” and “The Outlaw Josey Wales.”

The town might be best know as the home of “Gunsmoke,” a TV show (remember Marshal Matt Dillon, Miss Kitty, Chester and Festus?] that was filmed in Paria from 1955 to 1975. Other TV shows filmed there were “Death Valley Days” and “Daniel Boone.”

The site now draws history buffs and those who come to marvel at the colorfully striated hillsides. Paria is in the Grand Staircase of the Escalante in southern Utah.

I received the sad news today that paul octavious' (aka Dunny) grandpa jud passed away. I wanted to show my support by creating this collection of my favourite portraits of grandpa jud. For some reason this reminded me of Miss Kitty in the old TV show Gunsmoke, walking down the boardwalk of Dodge City in her dress with fancy petticoat and wide brimmed hat. :)

The TV series Gunsmoke ran for 20 seasons from 1955 to 1975, and was the United States' longest-running prime time, live-action drama with 635 episodes. The remains of the original set were left to decay in the Utah desert.

Drew and I went with Mummy and Finna (later joined by Sabra) to go play with the horses. My parents live on 119 Acres and our horses have over 40 to roam on. We have three mustangs, one paint, and one pony. Drew is still learning about horses, and it has been fun seeing him gain the trust of them all! We rode for a while and then I worked with Argo (he's just rusty). It was a great day!

This is Drew when he was riding Gunsmoke; Sabra's mustang. I often don't get pictures of him while he's riding... He looks good in the saddle! I'm so glad the sky was so nice.

This is the townsite of Paria, in the Vermillion Cliffs, where parts of the TV western "Gunsmoke" was filmed, along with dozens of TV shows and movies.

Bentonite clays make this both a beautiful and treacherous valley. The original Mormon townsite was flooded repeatedly by the Paria River, and the clay forms a slimy, malleable mud which shifts and breaks buildings, and ensnares vehicles, even 4WD vehicles.

The Paria River flows from left to right, between the shaded hillside in the foreground and the sunlit wall in the background--look for the scruffy cottonwoods.

Take a walk at the highest resolution yo get an appreciation for the layering of contrasting clays.

1900 Mogul Locomotive, Heritage Junction Park, Newhall, CA - October 2008

This Mogul Engine 1629 is a class M4 engine weighing 75 tons, with wheels 2-6-0. It was built in Schenectady, New York, in 1900, and purchased by Southern Pacific Railroad for use on the line which ran from Yuma, Arizona to Portland, Oregon, passing through the Santa Clarita Valley.

In 1957, it was retired and sold to Western actor, Gene Autry, who used it in films at his Melody Ranch in Placerita Canyon. It appeared in such television series as "Gunsmoke" and "Wyatt Earp." Autry donated the locomotive in 1981 to the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society, and it was moved to its present location next to the Saugus Station using donated funds in 1982, where it is being restored as a static display.

Lego Simpsons 71005

The Simpsons is an American adult animated sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series is a satirical depiction of a middle class American lifestyle epitomized by its family of the same name, which consists of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture, society, television, and many aspects of the human condition.

The family was conceived by Groening shortly before a solicitation for a series of animated shorts with the producer James L. Brooks. Groening created a dysfunctional family and named the characters after members of his own family, substituting Bart for his own name. The shorts became a part of The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. After a three-season run, the sketch was developed into a half-hour prime time show and was an early hit for Fox, becoming the network's first series to land in the Top 30 ratings in a season (1989–1990).

Since its debut on December 17, 1989, the show has broadcast 548 episodes and the 25th season began on September 30, 2013. The Simpsons is the longest-running American sitcom, the longest-running American animated program, and in 2009 it surpassed Gunsmoke as the longest-running American primetime, scripted television series. The Simpsons Movie, a feature-length film, was released in theaters worldwide on July 26 and 27, 2007, and grossed over $527 million.

I took this shot more as a memory/keepsake for myself. Everytime we'd go to Dodge City when I was a kid, I always remember seeing that building with the stagecoach as we headed to my Uncle's house in Dodge City...

This camera, at least this roll, has some wild double exposure action goin on in the bottom too, and I know I didn't hit the shutter twice... part of the building is on the tree and there is a car on the building... gotta love Holga's. :)

... and my b&w film should be ready to pick up today! yeah!

This photo was taken from Forest Service Road 9, which cuts through Ralph Lauren's RRL ranch, west of Ridgway, CO. Ridgway was also the home of the late Dennis Weaver (Chester on the TV series "Gunsmoke.") Mount Sneffels (frequently misspelled "Sneffles") and other magnificent peaks of the San Juan range form the background.

Sierra # 3 is probably the most widely seen steam locomotive in the world. It has starred in over 100 movies and television productions. (High Noon; My Little Chickadee; Back To The Fture III; Unforgiven; Petticoat Junction; Gunsmoke; The Wild Wild West; Little House on the Prairie)

Photos can be magical.

To improve my magical skills I tried something with Photoshop.

Johnson County UT Movie Set 9-08

Grote markt, Antwerp, Belgium

I've met him more than

once at Iliad, which is our

favorite bookstore

on the corner of

Cahuenga & Chandler

in Noho,

just off the long Chandler

bike path where I ride almost

every day.

He is known as

the "Henry Higgins

of Hollywood," because he is

the preeminent voice

and dialect coach in the land.

When I asked for his photo,

he consented, and then posed

many times, quite quietly and

with much repose,

not unlike a king posing for

a portrait by a painter.

Born in Milwaukee in 1930, he is the

master of over 240 accents

and dialects, and has

coached such stars as

Sir Lawrence Olivier,

John Gielgud, Tom Cruise and Nicholas Cage.

He got his start in

radio, and starred first on "Fibber McGee and Molly,"

and then on "Gunsmoke," where he played “Chester’s brother “Magnus Goode," a role he also

played on the TV "Gunsmoke." He then

appeared on TV, radio and in films

concurrently, easily making the

transition from cowboy to country bumpkin

to Cockney gentleman to Nazi.

Grandpa takes a rest, while infomercials showcasing the magic bullet play on.. awaiting his next western.

This is Chester, I call him that because he has a back foot that doesn't work, Chester like Chester on Gunsmoke.....how could you ever say no to this little face!

I try to make sure there is food out there when he shows up, I don't see him every day though.

Basically SOOC, but I tried to add some gunsmoke, unsuccessfully I think. What do you think?. I used the cheap Canon 50mm lens, with a +2 closeup filter.

THE BEATLES lyrics - Happiness Is A Warm Gun

(Lennon/McCartney)

She's not a girl who misses much

Do do do do do do do do, oh yeah

She's well acquainted with the touch of the velvet hand

Like a lizard on a window pane

The man in the crowd with the multicoloured mirrors

On his hobnail boots

Lying with his eyes while his hands are busy

Working overtime

A soap impression of his wife which he ate

And donated to the National Trust

Down

I need a fix cos I'm going down

Down to the bits that I left uptown

I need a fix cos I'm going down

Mother Superior jump the gun

Mother Superior jump the gun

Mother Superior jump the gun

Mother Superior jump the gun

Mother Superior jump the gun

Mother Superior jump the gun

Happiness is a warm gun (Happiness bang, bang, shoot, shoot)

Happiness is a warm gun, mama (Happiness bang, bang, shoot, shoot)

When I hold you in my arms (Oo-oo oh yeah)

And I feel my finger on your trigger (Oo-oo oh yeah)

I know no one can do me no harm (Oo-oo oh yeah)

Because happiness is a warm gun, mama (Happiness bang, bang, shoot, shoot)

Happiness is a warm gun, yes it is (Happiness bang, bang, shoot, shoot)

Happiness is a warm, yes it is, gun (Happiness bang, bang, shoot, shoot)

Well, don't you know happiness is a warm gun, mama? (Happiness is a warm gun, yeah)

At first glance, it seems like you've stumbled upon a real ghost town - until you find out it's only the Johnson Canyon movie set
