thepixelkid83: @japangie well for my mom and dad too :)
raggedyanya: Is it pretty costly to keep up a daily juice habit? I am about to get a juicer but just wondering about throwing half the produce away....
butterfly109: I drink Shakeology instead of juicing. Ever hear of it? Ridiculously healthy an prob a lot cheaper than buying all the produce. Does that add up?
butterfly109: @raggedyanya ⬆⬆ for u too

Christiana Care Health System marks the 2010 Earth Day with the opening of a new garden – the Green Care Garden. The event was hosted by the Environmental Stewardship Committee, led by Bob Mulrooney, vice president of facilities engineering. This committee is helping to establish operating practices and implement projects to minimize the use of scarce natural resources, increase recycling of waste and lessen the impact of Christiana Care operations on the environment. It offers guidance and direction for implementation of environmentally responsible programs.
Recent accomplishments include: reducing medical waste reduced by 34 percent; reducing air emissions reduced by 49 percent; reducing use of white paper by 64,000 pounds; and recycling 1.4 million pounds of paper, cardboard, plastic, cans and bottles in 2009.
Our efforts to reduce waste and reuse and recycle materials have been recognized in the past year by key agencies, Practice Greenhealth, Partners for Change and the EPA Trailblazer program.
The team recently established environmental champions throughout the health system. Unit champions are staff members or volunteers dedicated to helping the committee on environmental activities and initiatives by reaching out and educating employees. Unit champions serve as direct links to committee members, and provide new ideas and initiatives.

Greening the OR isn't just about patching a problem, it's about digging into the way we do things to discover the source of our negative impacts. With a scientific approach and a deep curiosity, we began to study what happens in the OR during a surgery to find the parts that could be changed to improve our hospital's environmental footprint. Practice Greenhealth and Greening the OR have been a great source of information and connection, giving us background and focus. We hope that with our research, such as measuring the electricity consumption of various surgical instruments, we might be able, in turn, to help members of Greening the OR truly change their environmental footprint.
