Kelvinside Parish Church

Above the door, the inscription reads:

'The eight bells in this spire, the gift of a Glasgow Academical, are dedicated to the glory of God and in the memory of the boys of Glasgow and Kelvinside Academies, and of this church, who fell in the Great War, 1914-18'.

The ancient N&W color position light signals protecting the south end of the siding at Glasgow drop from clear to stop as hotshot trailer train No. 201 enters the circuit. The Memphis bound train is quickly approaching Roanoke, where the crew from Shenandoah will finish their trip and the next crew will take over for the run to Bristol.

The Glenlee is a steel-hulled three-masted barque, built in 1896 for Glasgow owners, trading as a cargo ship. From 1922 she was a sail training ship in the Spanish Navy. She is now a museum ship at the Riverside Museum on Pointhouse Quay, Glasgow, known as The Tall Ship at Glasgow Harbour.

The Kibble Palace glasshouse was built in 1865 for John Kibble, the son of a wealthy industrialist, at his home in Coulport. He offered it to the Royal Botanic Institution of Glasgow and it was re-erected with additions in the Botanic Gardens in 1872-1873. Quoted from TheGlasgowStory website

The SSE Hydro is a multi-purpose indoor arena located within the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow, Scotland. The arena was initially named The Hydro after its main sponsor, energy company Scottish & Southern Energy subsidiary Scottish Hydro. The company then re-branded itself and its subsidiary companies as SSE, however the Hydro name was retained despite it no longer being a trading name. Quoted from Wikipedia

Looking over Glasgow to the Trossachs from Cathkin Braes.

The weather there is not much better than Guilin...

People in Glasgow complained that their house price has been frozen for over 30 years, that in comparison, the house price in London has gone up 10 or at least 8 fold in the same period.

I'm not sure though if high house is a plus at all for the 95% of people except those who intend to sell their home moving to area with a lower standard of living: many Britons dreamed of moving over to Barcelona some thirty or forty years ago for weather there is definitely better, at least warmer.

Here in Hong Kong, people suffer a lot from high property price, many can't afford to buy one, some can't even afford to rent one even though time is running short for their marriage. Some have to take up a second or even a third job to make ends meet. They have to double up on whatever job they have in hand, otherwise, they simply can't pull though, so they become impatient, they are shot tempered and they get disease more readily and their living space is much smaller than their peers even in Asia, often these are just pigeon holes...

The most detrimental thing would be, high house price would definitely push up the costs of living : bosses have to pay more for the rent and more to their employees and so foreign investors would for sure think twice. What is the point of offshoring US factories to Asia, if the costs of Asia is not categorically lower ?

The song here is a lovely one, a wonderful mixture of the East and the West. I'm not too sure about the accuracy of the translation though and hopefully those who are bilingual would give me a hand here !

恋人よ ( Oh, My Lover ) : widely sung by top singers in Japan

As sung by the original song writer :

Lyrics :

The falling leafs murmur in dusk

Complaining about the cold weather

But the bench bitterly soaked

And battered by the rain

Has no song to sing about love whatsoever

It's chilling me to the bone

Stick with me no more denial

Explain to me the farewell was a joke

I wish you do so

Do so with a heart warming smile

Along the rugged road

Like marathoners they went past

None would even care to slow down

I was expecting them like a dove

Right there tip-toed

Blindly they looked at me

Now so close yet so far

Good-bye my love

Spring Time will be back for sure,

Yet, fireworks as always burn out quick

The shooting star had nipped good days short

Plunging into a quagmire

Oh dear, what a pathetic nightmare

It's chilling me to the bone

Stick with me no more denial

Explain tn me the farewell was but a joke

I wish you do so

Do so with a heart warming smile

Glasgow Cathedral, also called the High Kirk of Glasgow or St Kentigern's or St Mungo's Cathedral, is today a gathering of the Church of Scotland in Glasgow.

The title cathedral is honorific and historic, dating from the period before the Scottish Reformation and its former status as the Roman Catholic mother church of the Archdiocese of Glasgow and thus the cathedra of the Archbishop of Glasgow (which is now in St. Andrew's Cathedral, the present mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Glasgow). The current congregation is part of the Church of Scotland's Presbytery of Glasgow. Glasgow Cathedral is located north of High Street and east of Cathedral Street, beside the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
