Common Gem - not exactly common though, this is one of the uncommon and rare butterfly. This is a hill species that inhabits open spaces in the wilderness and are often seen in the earlier part of the morning flying very swiftly around bushes with sunny exposures.
The Common Gem (Poritia hewitsoni) is a small butterfly found in India, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam that belongs to the Lycaenids or Blues family.
Common Gem is a small butterfly, 31 to 38 mm wingspan. Male - Upper dark iridescent blue, usually with sub-marginal and apical spots. The cell on UPF is entirely devoid of blue or with a minute blue spot at the base in some cases. Males also have a tufted brand on the upper HW above vein 7. The underside is brown with variable pale lineation. Females - Brown above, with a few blue spots. The upper forewing has a yellow discal patch above blue area.

Exhausted at this point, Gem Lake appeared to be more of a rinestone. From the trail head you could go to the right for a 2 mile hike up to this lake. We went left and took the 9 mile trek to this point. We just missed a bear, as another hiker informed us at our resting point. I can complain about this hike, but looking back, it was so worth the pain.
Unfortunately, it was a 3 mile up mountain hike to Gem Lake. Which clearly is not much of a lake. According to the locals the water level is lower than normal and there is typically a lot more snow surrounding the area. I actually enjoy this picture I captured, maybe because of the accomplishment of the hike.

“Full many a gem of purest ray serene
The dark unfathomed caves of ocean bear:
Full many a flower is born to blush unseen,
And waste its sweetness on the desert air.”

This was my birthday present to Ida Isa. Her birthday was yesterday June 6.
In my mind Ida is a GEM. I admire how strong she stood during her recent trying periods and she has been standing strong for mine too. She happens to love gemstones (on top of SHOES ... ) so I thought why not make her some jewelleries for her birthday. Gumpaste jewelleries and handpainted with edible colors.
The cake was an eggless chocolate moist cake with chocolate ganache filling and masking.
...not from my garden but my neighbours'. They are now on holiday and I'm kinda taking care of their house + garden. :)
