Seeing as I'm about to move from my home of more than 36 years in West Sussex I thought over the next few days I'll post some pictures from the hills and fields and woodland behind my home and I'll start with May as that was such a glorious and magical time with nature and the weather in that month.
I will dearly miss these views and walks, more-so as moving into the heart of the Bournemouth area I've got to travel a bit to find such views. But I will relish the challenge!
Gem heard Sam's comment about beckoning Skippy, and decided to give it a go.

We had considered a swim here before we set off on the hike. As you can see such an option was out of the question.
Gem Lake is the highest of the three lakes that the trail follows on its route up past Baker Point. At this point we are 1'800 feet below the summit of Trapper Peak.
I was glad that the Monarch alighted on the Goldenrod for a while, they are made for each other...

GEM museum voor actuele kunst (en fotografie), apart gebouw, aparte ingang, ligt naast het Gemeentemuseum.
Heb hier gisteren de fototentoonstelling van Arnold Newman bezocht.
Vond het heel inspirerend. Wat mij opviel waren zijn grafische composities van portretten van heel veel beroemdheden uit de wereld van muziek, kunst, architectuur en Marilyn Monroe. Gaat dat allen zien.

Die Burg Gemen steht in der Münsterländer Parklandschaft im früheren Sumpfgebiet der Bocholter Aa. Auch wenn der Name anderes vermuten lässt, handelt es sich bei der Anlage heute um ein Schloss. Seine frühere Schlossfreiheit gab dem heutigen Borkener Stadtteil Gemen in Nordrhein-Westfalen seinen Namen.
Das Schloss entstand aus dem allmählichen Umbau einer mehr als 900 Jahre alten Wasserburg, die von den Edelherren von Gemen, einem der einflussreichsten westfälischen Adelsgeschlechter seiner Zeit, erbaut wurde. Es steht auf zwei Inseln, die von einem weitreichenden Gräftensystem umflossen werden. Die Burg war Mittelpunkt der Herrschaft Gemen.
Seit 1946 ist die Burg Jugendbildungsstätte des Bistums Münster und wird als "Jugendburg Gemen" vom Bischöflichen Generalvikariat Münster unterhalten.

SteveB and I hiked to Gem Lake, RMNP on Saturday. Unlike most of our hikes, this one was not previously explored so we didn't really have any idea what to expect. What we found on arrival is that Gem Lake has some truly unique rock structure unlike any other place in the park that we've been, but the lake itself may be better photographed this time of year anyway on a sunset hike where the rock faces would be lit with some setting sunlight.
This view shows the break in the rock that we hiked through to get to the lake. Though not highlighted in this view, the rock looks like it's sandstone similar in appearance to Red Rocks, Garden of the Gods and other sandstone rock outcropping areas.
One of the disappointments we discovered this morning was that the rock formations completely cut off the sunrise which looks like it was going to be spectacular. So after a few of these night/moon shots we started to scramble up the steep hill/rocks to see if we could find any views. Consider that a preview of things to come :)
