Stowe Gardens: The Temple of Ancient Virtue
William Kent
Gardener 1730-1748, Stowe
"Kent moved on to evolve a 40 acre area of the gardens running alongside the South Front of Stowe House into what is now known as the Elysian Fields.
Among Kent's first addition to the area was the Temple of Ancient Virtue. Designed in 1734, the round domed temple served as an imposing focal point for the area. The temple honours four great Greek men: Socrates; Lycurgus; Homer and Epaminondas. Often regarded as the greatest philosopher, lawgiver, poet and Ancient Greek general."

"Get pushed" challenge for round 24
debraohearn was my partner this round: please check out her personal journey in her photostream:

She said "I'd like you to create a natural abstract, with a camera technique pf your choice .. Try to do in the camera .... And edit minor adjustments only . "
This is straight out of the camera, i had a 1 second shutter speed and zoomed in on the white nicotiina in my garden. I like how it looks like it's flying in pieces all over the garden, with the orange rudbeckia in behind..
I tried lots of techniques to get a natural abstract, but this is the result I was happiest with. Thanks Debra for the fun push! (It made me take my macro lens off my camera for a while! )
Officially, there is no such place as 'Garden Hill'. The locals nicknamed it this way due to its proximity to the HQ of the food company Garden Company Limited. The steep stairs that climb up the small 'Garden Hill' to this vantage point is behind that H-shaped building.

I have been very lucky with various birds and mammals visiting my garden this year. This shot taken only a few feet away from where the fox capture I showed a few days ago was taken the following day.
Once he departed from the garden the Blue Tits and other bird life came back in abundance.:)
Oh Garden Angel, Oh so Dear
Bless the flowers that bud this year.
Let the sun shine down from above.
And bless the blossoms that bloom with love.
I've been looking for a garden gnome for a while now and this one was perfect. it was brought over from england and was made in 1880. Of course it cost $980.00 so I'll have to look elsewhere...

One of the robins in our garden; they each have their own patch of territory and are vociferously protective of their respective peaceful havens.

The spider species Argiope aurantia is commonly known as the yellow garden spider, black and yellow garden spider, golden garden spider, writing spider, corn spider, or McKinley spider. It is common to the contiguous United States, Hawaii, southern Canada, Mexico, and Central America. It has distinctive yellow and black markings on the abdomen and a mostly white cephalothorax. Its scientific Latin name translates to "gilded silver-face" (the genus name Argiope meaning "silver-face", while the specific epithet aurantia means "gilded"). Males range from 5–9 mm (0.20–0.35 in); females range from 19–28 mm (0.75–1.10 in). These spiders may bite if disturbed or harassed, but the venom is seemingly harmless to humans.

Kauai is otherwise known as the "Garden Isle," and for good reasons. Parts of the island can get as much as 460 inches of rain annually! The rain has eroded deep valleys into the volcanic rock giving it the appearance of clusters of spires reaching for the sky. Because of the copious precipitation, the Na Pali coast is lush with vegetation and studded with countless waterfalls. The upper reaches of the mountains are often shrouded in mist or fog.
