The Gardens boast one of the finest tree collections in the world, set on banks around a great lake. The famous Pantheon, Temple of Flora and Temple of Apollo (where Darcy first proposed to Elizabeth in the new Pride and Prejudice Film) form the centre-point for countless vistas from around the garden, inspired by classic Renaissance landscape paintings.

I'm loving the view from my living room / sewing room

"The Adirondack chair (in Canada, more commonly called a Muskoka chair) is a simple chair made of wood or man made materials, generally used outdoors. Originally made with 11 flat wooden boards, it features a straight back and seat and wide armrests. ....

"The first Adirondack chair was designed by Thomas Lee while vacationing in Westport, New York, in the Adirondack Mountains in 1903. Needing outdoor chairs for his summer home, he tested his early efforts on his family. After arriving at a final design for a "Westport plank chair", he offered it to a carpenter friend in Westport in need of a winter income, Harry Bunnell.

"Bunnell saw the commercial potential of such an item being offered to Westport's summer residents, and apparently without asking Lee's permission filed for and received [a] U.S. patent ... in 1905. Bunnell manufactured hemlock plank "Westport chairs" for the next twenty years, painted in green or medium dark brown, and individually signed by him.

"Modern Adirondack chairs usually feature a rounded back and contoured seat, modifications made by Irving Wolpin, who received [a] U.S. patent ... for his design in 1938."

My favourite part of the National Trust's Glendurgan Garden is the maze, so I couldn't miss the chance to take a couple of pictures yesterday afternoon. It was completely overcast when we arrived ,but just as we reached the maze the clouds parted and the sun came out. Perfect timing!

The cathedral garden in Chester is a place of vibrance and solitude, a place to escape the noise of rush hour even during a busy Monday morning :)

I visited the Japanese Gardens in Washington Park, Portland, Oregon. I was too early for the magenta colored azaleas and most of the Japanese maple was not fully leafed out, yet. Nonetheless, there's plenty of beauty to capture in zen like serenity.

The lesson I have thoroughly learnt, and wish to pass on to others, is to know the enduring happiness that the love of a garden gives.

Old Westbury Gardens and House

Old Westbury Gardens is the former estate of John Shaffer Phipps (1874-1958), heir to a U.S. Steel fortune, in Nassau County, New York.

Old Westbury Gardens are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. They have been open to the public for tours since 1959.

Work on the estate began in 1903, when Phipps promised his British fiancee Margarita he would build her a home in the United States that resembled her family estate in Battle Abbey. The estate was ready for Phipps, his wife and their children in 1906.

Westbury House, the Charles II-style mansion designed by George A. Crawley, contains 23 rooms. The grounds cover 160 acres (0.65 km2).

The painting "Mrs. Henry Phipps and Her Grandson Winston" by John Singer Sargent hangs in the dining room. The godfather of Winston was Winston Churchill.

Dewstow Gardens and Grotto

In 2000 a whole series of tunnels and grottos hidden since the 1940's were discovered, most of the site has been restored to it's former glory since then.

Yesterday was very cloudy, but ideal for wedding photos. I saw at least two wedding congregations there in the garden.

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden was the first Japanese garden to be created in an American public garden. It first opened to the public in June 1915. It is widely considered by numerous landscape architects to be the masterpiece of its creator, Japanese landscape designer Takeo Shiota (1881–1943).

Gardens By The Bay

The garden of this isolated house not far from Lee Common has beautiful views across pastoral farmland. I passed this on the final stretch of my walk yesterday.

The house is for sale, the asking price is £700,000! You would only get a cramped flat in Central London for this price!

Recently in my house garden.

The Orange-Tip (male) sat on a cool but sunny morning on the not yet opened pasqueflower, which I planted in my garden in front of a natural stone wall. On the wall blooms at the time the Blue Cushion.

Neulich in meinem Hausgarten.

HBM!

We haven't been to Ness Gardens for some time. The gardens, (which were starting to look a bit run down, some years back) are now back to prime condition and looking wonderful. I loved the striped lawn!

The Hall is a rare example of three eras of English domestic architecture; mediaeval, Jacobean and Georgian.

The Medieval Hall was built around 1208 although the solar wing has long since disappeared. The Jacobean Mansion was built in 1671 and in 1720 the Hopper family built the Georgian House.
